Absolutely blows my mind that Americans have this attitude to work / life. That they put up with hardly any annual leave, being in massive debt for health and education, no paid maternity leave. Greatest land in the World though... for employers.

Install those things at the centre of your life even if that looks different than you thought it would. It is SO NORMAL for it to look different than you thought it would.
