I am an inveterate car hater and agree that american car culture is an altar to sin, or, as I unironically believe, an altar to some kind of road rage demon that has claimed dominion over all of our roadways, so I don't disagree with the thesis overall

25 days until I get to dress up like a jester and recite Ecclesiastes on a tiny stage again!

I just realized that a full set of Calvin and Hobbes is definitely near the top of the list of things I want to buy when I have hundreds of dollars of completely discretionary money
I can still remember getting upset when I couldn’t find Calvin & Hobbes in the comics section of the newspaper the next day & found out it was because Watterson had ended its run.
Thirty years ago today. The most beautiful, hopeful farewell.

This iconic Fabian Todorovic cartoon is still one of the best I’ve seen at illustrating the remarkable amount of space we surrender to cars, leaving little space left for everyone and everything else. The text added later makes the bonus point that many drivers still manage to complain about it.

Catching up on Clone High and looked up the Wikipedia page of guest star Tom Green. I never heard of this man, but he
- was briefly married to Drew Barrymore
- inspired Joe Rogan to get into podcasting
- was called out in the lyrics of "The Real Slim Shady" for humping apparently dead moose

Unpopular opinion: we need to stop asking which stories should be remade with Muppets and one primary human actor. They successfully did that only two times 30+ years ago. Instead, we need to invent a slate of characters anyone can recreate and use THEM to retell classic stories

Even though (perhaps bc) I identify as Xian, I wonder if anyone has attempted a quasi-IFS approach to atheism: "Thank you, religion, for doing your best to keep us safe in the earlier stages of civilization. But now you're fomenting division and ignorance and it's time to let go of that control."

thinking that the best possible Frankenstein movie would have
-del Toro's 2025 Captain Walton
- Bride of Frankenstein's sequence with the elderly blind man
- the creature makeup from the 2004 Hallmark miniseries
- the climactic adaptational twist from Branagh '94
- del Toro's ending and final shot

After attending a murder mystery dinner theater production last night, I'm envisioning a one-person show variant where just one actor in costume is wandering around delivering increasingly unhinged monologues

Finally watched John Carpenter's Prince of Darkness (1987), a movie in which Satan a liquid goo trying to free his Father (the Anti-God) and Jesus was apparently a space alien sent to warn us. Honestly, I don't mind such heresy in service of Lovecraftian horror, but you gotta... (1/2)

I've never written a musical but one of these days I'm going to sit down and write a musical about Joseph just to prove it can be done better than the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat version

I don't really like every single song on the album, but damn if Randy Newman's Faust doesn't have some real tearjerkers (and catchy songs in general)

Am I getting old? Or are people in their 60s and 70s — not always, but fairly often — starting to get good at Facebook?

Hi everyone—I made my BlueSky account a while back but I figure it's time I actually give posting here an honest try.

My name is Benjamin; I was foyercoffee on Twitter. I play piano for churches, musicals, and college voice students. I buy lots of theology books but rarely read them.
