This sucks but I think non-Americans being justifiably angry at Americans for what the American government is doing and threatening to do, and Americans experiencing that anger and frustration personally in ways that are unpleasant, is probably an important part of any path back to stability

I think this is short-sighted, doctors hold a position in society where their judgement is trusted still. Their decline in real terms pay has been wrongly mirrored by the public perception of their value.

Yeah, I think they are consciously choosing between being popular and being better paid, and, ultimately, doctors aren't on the ballot.
It's true public support for strikes has fallen a lot. But I'm not sure how much it matters given there's a fixed labour supply. Being unpopular never stopped the RMT.
