If you have morals, scruples, how is it possible to meet in the middle on issues where one side doesn't accept that some groups of people are human beings or are lesser human beings?

That's my starting point. We can have a discussion only if you understand this statement.

After several hours of remarkable, thoughtful, passionate debate, the Senate has accepted the report on the Indigenous Affairs committee on S-2. Translation? The Senate accepted the recommendation to make major amendments to the bill, despite the wishes of the government. #cdnpoli #APPA #SenCa

Poor Mark Carney, working so hard to make corporations and oil execs rich so that their money can eventually trickle down to the rest of us. Why are the peasants so ungrateful?? Perhaps AI can make corporations and oil execs rich faster? Get Evan Solomon on that! It’s generational investment, poors!

This path-to-a-pipeline MOU between Alberta and the federal government just keeps getting worse.

Luckily @karlamarx1917.bsky.social and @emilylowan.bsky.social joined me for a much-needed palate cleanser!

Here’s a taste:

Mark Carney managed to trade a pipeline that will never get built for meaningful progress on industrial carbon pricing and electricity interties — both of which will get more wind and solar built.

Adam Radwanski does a good roundup of the climate policy implications here.

(I think I did a gift link?)

Anyway, my concern is less about phantom pipelines than it is the future of emissions reductions, renewables and clean tech in AB & BC.

People are waking up. This government is about 3 to 6 months from an election. The LPC will lose. 25 to 40% of the Lib vote will go NDP
Wilfully ignoring. “Give him time, he knows what he’s doing”. Yeah he’s laughing his ass off in corporate Board rooms as he fucks ordinary Canadians. I haven’t yet seen an action that helps us with Trump, all I see are handouts and longterm projects helping corporations in the future, not Canadians

Ditto for reconciliation.
Something that is easy to forget in all the "Carney is a political genius / Carney is a political naif" argle bargle is that climate policies matter. Environmental regulations matter. Getting rid of them may or may not achieve a political end — but it's guaranteed to have real-world implications.

“Meaningful progress in industrial carbon pricing” is highly dependent on the government of the day. Could be completely gone in a couple of years, we don’t know.

A pipeline that federal legislation has opened a door wide open for may be labeled “never gets built” a tad too soon.

Never been so mad to publish something.

While I have a ton of time for Max's analysis, I think this is overlooking one major fact: Carney didn't need Alberta's approval to bring in an industrial carbon price. So he traded a litany of climate policies for nothing he didn't already have.
