@badambulist.bsky.social We'll be reading Welcome to Dorley for our Book Club next month. Which chapters are books 1 and 2? I haven't been able to find the info & could encourage using www.scribblehub.com/series/42187... & supporting you on Patreon etc,(esp if no hard copy found (or too expensive).
The Sisters of Dorley
Stefan Riley worked hard to get into the Royal College of Saint Almsworth for one reason and one reason only: to find out exactly what happened to the women who live at Dorley Hall, and to try and get...

This is exactly the same argument — and, in parts, even the same language — that segregationists advanced to argue that white people had a “right” not to live next to people who were different from them.
Vance says it is "totally reasonable and acceptable" for people to not want to live next door to people who speak a different language than they do

I'd add that this is not only the highest number of votes of any candidate, but also on track to be the highest percentage by a significant margin (unless something changes drastically)

De Valera got 56.3% of first prefs in 1959, while Higgins' 822k votes in 2018 represented 55.8%
With 3 constituencies left to count - Catherine Connolly has received the highest number of votes of any candidate for presidency in the history of the state

According to @womenforelection.bsky.social data - MDH in 2018 had 822k #Aras25

Catherine Connolly just went up against the government and won...by a lot...but all the media wants to do is talk about people that don't know how democracy in Ireland works?

Ms Connolly won 63 per cent of the vote, the highest since the office of president was established in 1938.

To be simultaneously holding that the largest vote in the history of the state doesn't matter but the few thousand people who spoiled their vote has proven that our electoral democracy is a sham is gas

1. It was a higher turnout for this presidential election than the 2018 presidential election.
2. The number of spoiled votes only equates to 5.91% of the actual electorate.
3. No Irish presidential candidate has ever received as many first preference votes as Catherine Connolly got.

The people of Ireland have spoken, and I, for one, couldn't be more delighted. Yet again, we have elected a humanitarian with the utmost integrity. Today, I'm proud to be Irish. 🇮🇪

Catherine Connolly, the independent socialist, is President-Elect. Yet again, Ireland bucks the trend of liberal democracies falling to far right nihilism. Here is who she is - Connolly supports the LGBTQ community & People with Disabilities, Carers & a United Ireland. #Aras25 #SpeirGhorm

Catherine Connolly got more votes than any other president in history - any pol corr or commentator trying to convince you that the story is actually the spoiled votes is showing you their whole arse, and should be treated accordingly.

From late July helping run the lights & camera for the launch of her campaign to the eve of the election at Galway Arts Centre with creative sector workers & unions, I'm immensely grateful to have been a small part of this historic moment for Ireland with Catherine's election.

Irish Presidential Election candidates as Pokémon.

Catherine Connolly - Venusaur: Combines green and red, has a lot of grass root support. As the Seed Pokémon, she's the only one who actually seemed to plan to run.

How do you say "Irish President" in Irish Sign Language?

I voted today and I'm sure it's no surprise that I only voted for Catherine Connolly, not for the party nominee who spouts the party line at every opportunity.

The furious sham who threatened and assaulted people canvassing for Catherine Connolly, including Mary Lou McDonald. Not furious enough to forget to film the entire thing.

If Catherine Connolly wins tomorrow, it is the stated position of Fine Gael that Ireland is a far-left country, and they should never be let forget that.
I have to say I found this highly motivating in terms of getting off my hole to vote

Apropos the man threatening canvassers - there are more and more radicalised men wandering around Ireland these days, and the Irish state is not prepared for what is going to happen. Someone is going to get hurt.
I've been covering the far right for more than 20 years, and they never just go away.

He's fiercely independent, loving, tackles issues such as insufficient cuddles head on (via headbutts), does not discriminate, and helps me learn Irish. I'm sure he'd sniff and approve of @catherinegalway.bsky.social as President of Ireland. #Áras25
