Maybe that a) the piece was ready and b) the reporters made normal efforts to get comment from the administration?
The Bari Weiss hysteria continues. Exactly what in "this piece isn't ready" and "try harder to get comment from the administration" constitutes the death of American journalism? www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2025/1...

A depraved and decadent Trump WH dinner for MBS was a stunning low for an American ruling class that's stopped pretending to carry a moral compass

It was really a celebration of death - of democracy, of an overheating planet, and ultimately themselves. My new column www.inquirer.com/opinion/ceos...

Folks had no idea who owns their local TV stations - until large, faceless corporations, Sinclair and Nexstar, said they can't watch Jimmy Kimmel because of politics

This is why they've been warning us: media consolidation is a threat to democracy. My new column www.inquirer.com/opinion/jimm...
Kimmel blackout is what happens when your TV isn’t locally sourced

A few lazy media members trying to sanitize the actual words of Kirk because he couched his long history of spewing racist & hateful tropes by “being civil” & saying “it’s not who I am”. Yes, he has said enough damning things to confirm who he actually WAS 🙄.
A lot of it is trolls seeking to blow the winds harder and amplify viral crap. Some of it is folks who fear that a call for mere accuracy risks sanitizing him. He said enough damning things on his own without having to distort them.
September 13, 2025 at 4:37 PM
Exactly. I think it is a much more disturbing media malpractice to discount his spewing of a racist trope because he couched it by saying “..but that’s not who I am”. In context, and based on his long history of racist and bigoted comments, that IS who he was. But sure, he was “civil” 🙄
No, he's offering it as his own sentiment. The rest of the quote makes it quite clear. "I don't wanna think that way" -- but he DOES. He's arguing, pretty clearly, that the existence of affirmative action means that he automatically questions the qualifications of anyone non-white he sees.
