I am so burning with rage that anyone could make Somalis not welcome in the US. This is the country with a Statue of Liberty. Do these people even know any Somalis, have tried to make Somali friends? When I hear that kind of bigotry I want to tear the bigot from limb to limb

I believe John Brown also studied at Oberlin College, and his father taught there--where I went as an undergrad.
What I've always admired about John Brown is that he was "radicalized" by three things:
1. The Bible. He read "you are all one in Christ" and went: "cool."
2. His eyes. He saw that not all people were treated equally and went: "not cool."
3. Black people. He listened to Black voices. He learned.

It's not great that a student can turn in a bad essay but vaguely point to the Bible and religious beliefs as an excuse for not following the actual assignment and terrible writing. That's not what college is supposed to be.
The professor did nothing wrong but she was pulled off the course anyways.

The fact the American military is following plainly illegal orders up to and including murder suggests every aspect of America’s civic identity has curdled.
Hegseth obviously needs to be tried. So should every member of the military all the way down the chain of command who participated in this.
