If "the public" were to "rise up" Schumer would be on here every day scolding everyone and would end up being one of 15 Senate Democrats to vote for a bill called something like the Omnibus Tax Reduction and Let President Trump Napalm Protesters Act of 2025.

Is it inefficient to design a bridge to hold more weight than it's rated for? Is it inefficient to design your plumbing to withstand unexpected abuses? People who insist that government be maximally "efficient" do not appreciate why we have government at all
Nobody likes waste. But what a lot of people don’t realize is that, in many ways, government is *designed* to be inefficient. It’s structured with redundancy and complexity both for audit and control purposes and because it tries to satisfy multiple competing societal goals. 1/2
btw i dont think anybody is arguing that we should cut waste what is being argued by sane ppl is that what elon trump and the gop are doing isnt that they are cutting things they dont like arbitrarily without any oversight or ya know legally

Schumer tells me Republicans might try to jam Democrats again in September, but thinks Trump will be less popular then and Republican appropriators might be more willing to stand up to him. He said they refused to do so now.

Do we think it's as simple as this? Wall Street is panicked over the tariffs and is begging Senate Democrats (and promising them fat checks in exchange) to stabilize the economy and not allow the government to be shut down. Both NY senators cave and sell us out to Elon Musk.

One of the most remarkable things about Trump and right-wing influencers changing Republicans’ opinions on consequential issues—eg anti-Russia to pro-Russia—is the Democratic politicians and pundits who saw that and still argue public opinion should be approached as something to follow, not to lead.
Republicans are lining up to denounce Zelensky because their base was seduced by a cranky old racist with a fondness for dictators. Just wild how the whims, prejudices, and weird obsessions of a senile 78-year-old have completely supplanted the party’s priorities — and reshuffled the world order.
