That is something to be celebrated, in my opinion. There is no toxic cultural notion of "citizen soldier" or "the man with a gun". What we see is just a guy who did something very brave in a moment to help strangers -- as it should be.

For me at least, the key part of the footage of the man disarming the attacker was when he takes possession of the rifle and points it at the shooter but does not fire. This is also very Australian: he removed the threat but did not take the next step into aggression or murder.
