I know many of you who follow me don't work in climate science, but this is the biggest story in climate right now. Breaking up NCAR makes us all less safe and is another act of self-harm that will take decades to recover from.

What's happening with the Chicago Public Libraries right now is terrible. The proposed budget of the city would CUT 89 CPL positions. Importantly, 78 positions were lost LAST year. That would be 167 positions in 2 YEARS while COPS KEEP GETTING MORE MONEY. ENOUGH. SAY NO.

I saw about 5 of these little guys today as I added trees to CRTI's Canopy Counts map. They were hiding between mulch and plastic tree guards that needed to be cleared out for each tree. Say hello one of Chicago's native lizards, a five lined skink (juvenile)

Between this and the recent articles from Chronicle of Higher Ed and New York mag about AI-facilitated cheating, I have to wonder how many classes are now a closed loop of homework generated by ChatGPT, whose answers are written by ChatGPT, which are then graded by ChatGPT.
Now it's the professors using ChatGPT. Students aren't happy about it.
