It seems like a kind of a bait-and-switch to me, and then I'm even less interested in what the author has to say.

Thirty years ago I had the most damaged hair I’ve ever had, I think.
It was my first semester at university, and I’d bleached and dyed my hair green. But we were going up to Chicago to see my grandpa for Thanksgiving. So I re-bleached it and re-dyed it a more natural color.

The Ramones were supposedly named after a pseudonym Paul McCartney used, and if it was good enough for the brothers, it was good enough for me.
Me and the overwhelming majority of other people I knew who got into punk at least somewhat liked the Beatles; we took after Glen Matlock rather than John Lydon on this score
I am in the middle of the Gen X birth-cohort distribution and my own experience was that the two modal positions were that you either loved the Beatles or were indifferent to them. Performative Beatles hate was more or less over even among punks in my neck of the woods by the waning of the ‘80s.

Although I’ve loved the Chronicles of Prydain since I was little, I’ve never read anything else by Lloyd Alexander. In an attempt to rectify this, I just started on Westmark. Unsurprisingly, it’s quite good as well.

Went through an IT programmer / analyst training program at UT Austin as a way to make money while I was writing my PhD dissertation.
After I got my PhD and couldn’t get anyone in academia to even look at me, I kept going on the IT side of things.
