Electrochemical engineer obsessed with energy. AEM electrolyzer researcher.
Net metering has long outlived its usefulness. It's time to stop screwing around and start the mass deployment of EVs and heat pumps.
AI tipped me off to this, but Eversource East is now issuing close to 250 mil in net metering credits (to be recovered from non solar ratepayers) for a total revenue requirement of 1.3 billion. This seems... significant.

Taking the worst of CA's energy policy is unsustainable. Who woulda thought

Using a heat pump dryer/washer combo is an awesome way to help simplify electrification projects! Though I am increasingly an advocate of avoiding heat kits if possible in Canada to minimize peak load.
We took great pleasure in being able to free up our 240V dryer breaker for heatpump heat kit capacity.

A new report on civic freedoms concludes that "the US is no longer a functional democracy."

Congrats everyone. And a *special* congrats to the Harpers letter signatories, free-speech warriors, and "anti-woke" crusaders. You saved us from woke! Great work.

Couple of things here:

1. Trump says he took another cognitive test recently

2. In front of "large numbers of doctors and experts"

3. He called the examinations "long...and very boring"

4. If you're given 3 cognitive exams in one year by panels of doctors, something is VERY wrong with you

Resign? Pete Hegseth must be tried, convicted, and sentenced.
I follower a few defense experts.

Seeing them all straight-up declare this a war crime without any him-and-hawing is uhm

Disconcerting.

Pete Hegseth must resign, as does Stephen Miller. Donald Trump should be subpoenaed before Congress to answer for HIS policy.

We can't convince universities to stop hiring Gordon Gee, so I don't know how we push for there to be any consequences for betraying the country for a few research grants. But it feels like figuring that out will be necessary.

SCOOP — A former staffer for Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-NJ), Natalie Green, 26, was charged today for falsely reporting she was attacked by 3 men who wrote "TRUMP WHORE" on her stomach bc of her job. It was staged by her + a friend.

Van Drew isn't named in the complaint but I've confirmed w/ his office.

China’s CO2 emissions have now been flat or falling for 18 months, starting in March 2024.

This trend continued in the third quarter of 2025, when emissions were unchanged year-on-year.

If this trend starts to move into sustained carbon emissions reduction it would be hugely significant.

I'm beyond desperate for the decision-makers in the Democratic Party to

1) actually recognize that this is happening, and
2) commit to punishing every single person who donated in this manner or in any other way paid to play with this administration.
Trump's ballroom donors include:

-Google, whose CEO thanked Trump for "resolution" of an antitrust case
-Palantir, which has lucrative contracts with ICE
-Blackstone's Stephen Schwarzman, who would profit from Trump's regulatory rollbacks for private equity

Pay-to-play.

1) New paper! Replacing US fossil-fueled vehicles & appliances with electric versions could improve health & climate outcomes, but could cost up to $790 billion in distribution grid reinforcement. Strategic demand-side management could cut 2/3 of those costs.🔌💡

My peak is supplemental resistance heating, ~10 kW plus the hot water heater, 4.5 kW. But electric heat is going to be a huge issue for the grid, so maybe we need demand charges.

It's really tricky to get right. Should use 99th percentile coincident peak demand or something to reduce nice.
I would add that this will kill the market for electric ovens and home EV charging. This chart is my home energy for the past three days. Green is solar, red is demand. The big peak is EV charging (7-8 kW) and smaller peaks are cooking dinner on an induction-top range (3 kW).
