it needs to be said that while democratic elected officials are trying to get into the USAID building which was shut down by musk, CNN and MSNBC are showing the entirety of a trump press conference.

Senator Andy Kim just went to the USAID building, talked to the security guard there to confirm employees are being barred entry, and then did a press gaggle right there in front to call it out.

This is doing something. This is making an effort on messaging. Other Democratic lawmakers: take notes.

i think this should be factored into how states, counties, localities and hospitals respond to these executive orders. "we will investigate you if you teach DEI." okay, with what agents, specifically? with what state capacity?
NYT reported that the number of potentially affected agents is as high as 6k. The bureau has about 13.7k agents total
What a hideous headline. Folks calling the shots here are just corrupt banana republic trash.

The Republicans and Democrats in Congress who voted for the Laken Riley Act, and endorsed its notions of detention and deportation without the rudiments of due process, facilitated today’s announcement of Trump concentration camps. They’d be wise not to go a single step further down that road.

PRRI finds that Republicans (44%) are more than 2x as likely as independents (21%) and 4x as likely as Democrats (11%) to agree with the idea that the U.S. military should put immigrants who are in the country illegally into internment camps until they can be deported.

8-ish years ago I got strangers to pay off $300k in “lunch debt” so kids who were being punished for owing money could do things like eat, go to prom, and, walk at their own graduation. In the 20 years I’ve engaged in social media, I have never received more hate for anything else I’ve said or done.

We have to get comfortable with the fact that there is no normal to go back to, and set our sights and work upon shaping a future worth experiencing.

This is not new or profound. Others have said it better, earlier, more often. Others have lived it more fully.

But I am accepting the call.

No. The Medicaid portals were shut down because the OMB demanded they be. They’re only back up because of the outcry. I’d tell you to stop lying but we know that’s a feature of this administration.

For ~a decade, while studying “rumoring during crisis”, I’ve seen how the right takes advantage of newsy moments, throwing out different frames & phrases to find what resonates. They don’t wait for focus groups. They throw everything at the wall, see what sticks, then lean into the winning bits.

All my childhood, I heard that news media manufactured controversy.

Now I'm watching bemusedly while news outlets underreport the significance and implications of the (checks notes) fifth constitutional crisis in eight years.
