It’s especially wild because the more firms he does this to, (1) the weaker his legal arguments, of a specific threat from one firm, become; and (2) the more diluted the threat gets when more and more firms can allege class treatment and form a united defense

leaving the cruelty aside for just a minute it's absolutely humiliating to imagine being my age or older and getting excited because you think you've been given permission to say a bad word. what are you gonna do next, ride your tricycle past the end of the block
I guess I'm too woke because I find the proliferation of this really off-putting and gross. The fact that it's now reached the "enlightened centrists" class is depressing.

let's remember that it was an NIH scientist who designed the core of the Moderna Covid vaccine *over a single weekend*
Shutting down medical research — not just within NIH, but everywhere that’s funded by NIH — will have long-term effects on medicine & short-term effects on state, higher education & hospital budgets. This affects all of us, not just researchers.
The assault on NIH is a test for how the national media covers the Trump admin: Trump is shutting down medical research!

That is easy to communicate. Will they treat it as a 5 alarm fire in a way that forces the government to respond, or will they downplay & caveat it?

Yes, we’re hiring another historian! Remote within US only, unfortunately (I do not make the rules). And Mark is correct that we’re interested in hearing from History PhDs!
Firaxis—the studio behind the Civilization series—is hiring a historian. An *actual* historian.

And note, when they ask for "4+ years as a Writer, Narrative Designer, or other position with commensurate duties," that includes teaching, writing, and research—i.e. your Ph.D. in History.

There is no actual definition of democracy compatible with voter suppression of this magnitude
It's already tremendously difficult to regain your voting rights in Tennessee: 500,000 people are currently barred. And it just got worse... you'll also have to *pay* just to apply for a special court order.

In Nashville, that application alone (which can be denied!) costs $159.50.
Tennessee Puts Voting Rights at the Whims of State Officials
The state made an infamously difficult process of restoring voting rights for people leaving prison even harder, now requiring that they plead for approval from a governor or judge.
