Is a bubble, here’s a simplified pictorial explanation, the plug is OpenAI and the sockets are Microsoft, Meta, Oracle, Nvidia, and AMD

Attending online! Full of interesting tidbits, from what a C18 valet did immediately after unpacking his master's belongings (find a fellow English servant and go drinking) to what these journals don't include (surprisingly, servants rarely wrote about their actual work). #18thcentury #academia

In the recent controversy over Jimmy Kimmel’s cancellation, I was reminded of the epic “I’m fucking Matt Damon” song that Sarah Silverman sang to him.

But I had no idea Kimmel then retaliated with his own song full of music & Hollywood royalty

The Daughters of Bilitis, an early Lesbian Rights group in the US, were raided by police during a meeting in a private member's club in New York.

This raid and the harassment from the police spur the group to be more politically active.

Have you ever noticed that old clothes online sometimes look better than old clothes in your closet?

Why is that? 🧵

1591) Lesbianbot. Is just a tiny lesbian!
A small, spherical robot with banded arms and legs and an antenna. The bobble of the antenna has a little female symbol on it, and the robot is lifting up its arms, smiling joyfully with its eyes closed.

the most delightful version of logging on to see what news you've missed
Dr Ramsdell, whose phone had been on airplane mode when the Nobel committee tried to call him, told the BBC's Newshour Programme that his first response when his wife said, "You've won the Nobel prize" was: "I did not."

To which Ms O'Neill replied that she had 200 text messages that suggested he had.

It's said that pigs are the only domestic animals raised solely for their meat, but actually they did serve a useful function as waste disposal before the widespread adoption of indoor plumbing. They'll eat you because they'll eat *anything*.

i have met a number of pigs, including pigs i later went on to eat (we have small farmers in our family) and quite frankly, getting to know pigs has made me feel even less bad about eating them

they would 100% eat us if given the chance

It’s World Octopus Day. There were 4,200 Lego octopuses inside the shipping container that fell off the Tokio Express back in 1997. We found our first Lego octopus soon afterwards but didn’t discover another for 18 years. #WorldOctopusDay #oceanplastic

Suddenly, I noticed a faint smell of tuna. I looked over at my office partner, Dr. Hunt. She was grinning by the machine she'd built.

"It works!"

"Nice," I said. "What is it?"

"What you smell is the ghost of tuna!"

I felt something brush against my leg. The office filled with ghostly purring.

As today is World Octopus Day I’ll again mention that a Spanish equivalent to “like a fish out of water” is como un pulpo en un garaje. It means “like an octopus in a garage.”
