So what's all this, then?
Got unexpectedly dumped this weekend after the best first six months of a relationship I've ever had. Zero stars. Do not recommend.

Perhaps the sickest part of the mind-numbingly cruel just-passed BBB is that the social cuts don't kick in until after the 2026 election. Hmmm, I wonder why they made it work that way?

Men are not constantly being told “you’re bad,” they are constantly being told “LEFT WING SJWS THINK YOU’RE BAD” by conservative propaganda. There’s a huge difference.
I have two sons, and I don't think I've ever seen messaging going "Don't be a boy" or "YOU'RE BAD."

Sure looks like that's in "I heard someone say that they heard..." territory, rather than actual direct experience.

Also worth noting, the main message from manosphere influencers is "YOU'RE BAD."
It's a brutal time for young men, and to be raising one. The primary message they now is get is "YOU'RE BAD" without any meaningful attempt to offer healthy pathways beyond "Don't be a boy."

Absolutely perfect time for right wing monsters to sweep in with shitty answers.

Amid all the other news, it's easy to become inured to the basic facts here. Öztürk:

-Is not accused of committing any crime

-Is nonviolent

-Was in this country legally

-Merely engaged in speech that the administration objects to

-Has been locked up for six weeks
Now from Öztürk’s ACLU lawyer Esha Bhandari:

“Rümeysa Öztürk’s case is unprecedented and shocking. She has been held behind bars for six weeks while her health deteriorates for writing an op-ed.”

Can we all agree @theathletic.bsky.social NBA's "most overrated" poll really just awards to the guy opponents least like playing against? Pretty sure Tyrese is legit at this point.

I read a LOT of NFL post-draft analysis and synthesized that with commentary from past draft years to come up with candid insights and grades for all 32 teams' 2025 draft picks.
Honest Draft Grades for Every NFL Team
The 2025 NFL draft is complete, which means it’s time to give out a grade for each team before a single player has stepped on a field.

Hold the line, Senate Democrats. Demand reasonable shit like restoring inspectors general, formalizing agency independence, and reaffirming Congress's authority over payments. At least TRY to save our democracy - to say nothing of actual policy like preventing tax cuts for billionaires.

For decades, the US government has painstakingly kept American science #1 globally—and every facet of American life has improved because of it. The internet? Flu shot? Ozempic? All grew out of federally-funded research. Now all that's being dismantled. 1/ www.technologyreview.com/2025/02/21/1...

Just look at these paragraphs from the AP story.

Hegseth called Brown unqualified solely because he's Black. Then they fired him... and replaced him with a white guy so indisputably unqualified that he requires a Presidential waiver.

This is what "merit" means to them.

History buffs will know that every authoritarian leader eventually converges on some version of: "I *am* the state. I can not break the law, I am the law, the law is instantiated in me."

Our march to authoritarianism so far has been excruciatingly by-the-book. Hitting every beat. No surprises.

Utter failure to grasp what we are facing www.nytimes.com/2025/02/15/u...

1. People lack the framework to recognize an attempt to overthrow the constitutional order
2. The lack of elites *acting* like point 1 is true makes it illegible. Without Ds behaving as if it's a crisis, it's not a crisis.

American institutions—from the media to Congress—continue to underreact to the unraveling of our democracy. Overseas our media would not hesitate to call what we’re living through a full-blown autocratic coup. Here's my attempt at the story they should write: www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/musk-trump...
