It’s quite clear by now that the answer to “why is the Trump administration doing x terrible thing?” is that they are *trying* to dismantle America and destabilize the entire world.

I note Matt Goodwin cited CPS's fictitious statistics on Question Time last night, so I'll repost this explanation of why they're nonsense.

[Genuinely sad that the once-serious CPS is now in the business of inventing soundbites for far-right propagandists like Goodwin.]
I thought it was worth explaining why this claim by @rcolvile.bsky.social is *not* based on "OBR statistics" and indeed directly contradicts them, as well as all other published data on migrant wages.

Earlier today, I read an account of Musk's approach to moving some of the Twitter servers. He's now applying the same reckless, dangerous, and impulsive approach to US nuclear weapons. I think dolphins may soon start singing "so long and thanks for all the fish" as they head for a safer planet.
There have been many signs of gross incompetence in the Musk-Trump sledgehammer approach. Now this:

"Multiple current and former employees described the situation as 'a national security crisis.'"
Hundreds laid off at US nuclear weapons agency: Sources
Hundreds of staff at the agency responsible for maintaining the U.S. nuclear stockpile were fired Thursday

The UK can secure significant growth of 1.7% - 2.2% through a policy of deep alignment with the EU on goods and services, while staying within Starmer's red lines.
This is the approach to push for: peak ambition within the constraints Labour has set.

It's weird that the department that is claiming to find issues with government spending doesn't appear to have any forensic accountants. It's all teenage tech traitor tots and lawyers.

Pandemics do not begin with official announcements.

They start with quiet deletions, missing reports, and assurances that there is "no cause for concern."

Pay attention.

#COVID can damage your 💔
The @bbcnewsuk.bsky.social didn’t mention this risk when they talked about children suffering an increase in heart attacks this week or regarding Diabetes. Even though children have suffered this. It keeps going unmentioned. 🧵
'COVID-19 speeds up artery plaque growth, raising heart disease risk'

New research reveals that even mild COVID-19 can silently worsen heart health, accelerating plaque buildup and inflammation—raising the risk of future heart attacks and strokes.

It would take whoever is producing this show a matter of seconds to check Portes is correct, and say that in the presenters' ears. This absurd, defensive both-sidesism by the hosts is an abrogation of the BBC's responsibility (again).
Emma Trimble, "1 in 12 people in London are illegal immigrants"

Professor Jonathan Portes, "Emma has taken that figure from a story in The Telegraph.. That story was a lie.. The Telegraph has corrected it, The Times has corrected it.. The Sun has corrected it.. And The Daily Mail has corrected it"

Happy "Microsoft trying to force CoPilot subs" day in the UK for all who celebrate.

(They just pinged me my renewal notice with it carefully worded to sound like a compulsory general price increase).

1) Go to your account page
2) Hit cancel
3) Change sub back.

The most frustrating thing about continuing failure to skewer Farage is that his grasp of detail is non-existent. It’s why he gets petulant when exposed to even mildly decent questions. Interviewers just need to zone in on one element of the bullshit & interrogate it until his ignorance is exposed.
Farage on #r4today decrying the increase in costs & red tape since Brexit & calling for Brexit to be “done properly”.
No longer part of the customs union/single market -both of which simplified bureacracy- the costs & red tape on trade have ofc ballooned.
Why was this not put to him directly?

For the record, the correct response to this in the UK at least is always:

"I believe that doing this would potentially represent a significant data breach and break the law. I'll need a letter from the legal department confirming it isn't, first."
