Completely beyond why people try to defend Labour record on treatment of asylum seekers. They are awful.
They have done terrible things the Tories never even thought of, like denying any refugee who came here through irregular means from EVER becoming a citizen & ENDING FAMILY REUNIFICATION. demons.

I think nihilism about the impending doom of climate change, corrupt politicians, billionaires etc. has well and truly sunk it's teeth in gen Z and probably gen alpha too, so now they don't want to engage in collective action - it's easier to tune out and try to cope then face the situation head on.

The claim that “emissions have come down” in this @nytimes.com @sominisengupta.bsky.social article on where we are ten years post-Paris is FALSE.

Global emissions were at an all-time high in 2024.

As it stands this claim is misinformation. They need to issue a correction!

AMOC shutdown is unfathomably catastrophic. You know how Toronto is the latitude of Marseille, but much colder? Imagine European latitudes with Canadian climates.

During the last AMOC shutdown, the winters in Paris were similar to Winnipeg, UK summers similar to Reykjavik.
Whilst its easy to get used to scary graphs, this one made me pause! The 2025 State of the Cryosphere report published yesterday has this one overlaying observations of #AMOC slowdown against model predictions.

The report states that “AMOC shutdown appears all but inevitable”

As the BBC carries anecdotal claims from a disgruntled former BBC staffer that it has a pro trans bias here is *actual* polling about trans people's level of trust in the BBC.

(The BBC refused to carry the polling, the first of what it is like to live in Britain as trans, because it is "too weak".)

"without subjecting anyone to differential treatment."

This is flatly false! Trans people with a passport that does not match with their plain appearance when presented to a border agent is subject to additional hassle compared to a cis person presenting a passport.
NEW: On the shadow docket, the Supreme Court lets Trump resume misgendering trans Americans on their passports, claiming "the government is merely attesting to a historical fact without subjecting anyone to differential treatment." All three liberals dissent. www.documentcloud.org/documents/26...

Teen Vogue was seriously committed to diverse and inclusive journalism and their disability coverage was extremely good. This is a big loss and someone better snap this column up!!
It’s been a pleasure working with Lex and everyone in the politics vertical at Teen Vogue. I’m heartbroken that my column, Disability Visibility, is gone. Teen Vogue was one of the few places that published disabled journalists regularly. I just spent the last 2 months working on my next column
I was laid off from Teen Vogue today along with multiple other staffers, and today is my last day.

certainly more to come from me when the dust has settled more, but to my knowledge, after today, there will be no politics staffers at Teen Vogue.

Once again, we need to define what “feminism” is here. Not everything any woman ever does—not even in the political realm, and not even concerning gender—is “feminism.” Opposing the rights of women as a class to equal status and dignity is in fact called “antifeminism.”

Don't talk to the New York Times about trans issues. They will betray your trust and use your story to undermine access to care. That's exactly what Azeen Ghorayshi did with families of trans kids in Missouri.
heads up to anyone who holds trans kids near: amy harmon from the nyt is searching for and having a hard time finding people to interview to find out exactly what trans kids are doing when their care is limited or cut off, and for purposes of community safety, please shut the fuck up around her.

The vast majority of the comments on SM posts and online articles are hideous, uninformed bigotry (and almost certainly not from the cycling community).

But some of the award nominees are declining to be included, and they’re speaking out.

They've changed it back again now, but changing a quote is a huge red flag. The BBC are repeatedly demonstrating that there are ideologues directly interfering with the meaning of stories they report relating to trans people, and this should be a far bigger deal than it is
In this piece, admitting the BBC has broken its impartiality rules re. trans people, the BBC further breaks its impartiality rules by changing a quote saying "trans identity" to "trans ideology".
