It is not just the clergy standing in streets and the like. I've met retired white doctors and teachers who have proudly got tear-gassed and shot at with pepper balls protesting and kept coming back. People are committed to suffering violence to demonstrate their rage

Starmer will have to be dragged into a breach with the US, and that is as it should be. But Greenland is a good place to draw the line. Terrible numbers for Trump, great numbers for Starmer.

Would the world be better if we had e.g. declined to send squaddies to Helmand to get into pointless firefights with local gangsters, or told Nicolas Sarkozy to fuck off, when he asked for our help with whacking the dictator who secretly funded his election campaign? Maybe not! Would it be worse.
