Kelly: For any leader to basically say, “Shut up. You’re not allowed to ask questions,” I don’t know who Hegseth worked for when he served as a junior officer in the National Guard, but it appears to me they were not very good role models of leadership—because this guy has no idea what he’s doing.

I looked it up. An "ex-officio" is someone who holds a position because of their status. She's a current member of the board.
Rep. Joyce Beatty, an ex-officio member of the Kennedy Center's board, has sued the admin over the attempt to add Trump's name to the building — arguing that renaming would require an act of Congress since the original name was established through legislation signed into law.
