I was supposed to be a veterinarian, but my high school art teacher said it would be a waste of my talent and convinced me to go to art school. I went for 2D animation, but couldn't get any work so @jeffparker.bsky.social said I should do comics. So I did and now look at me, lol!

I almost never do plein air painting, but when I do, I make sure it's only on vacation apparently. Here are the two I got around to this year: Eagle Beach in Alaska, and a hotel in Kauai, HI.

If you like a meaningful deep dive, Mike's got you!
Here's an essay years in the making:

In 2019 I decided to run the Dipsea Race because of a movie I saw in 1986. The race got pandemic-delayed. So I started interviewing the people who made the movie — Bruce Dern, Pam Grier, and many others.

The result:

Went out to a Japanese restaurant once and the bro-iest broheim next to us kept talking about karaage, but saying "kaRAjee". It will never leave my head.
do you ever have things that someone has said to you that live forever in your head (non-serious edition)? some older boomer hippie guy said “hahmmus gives you fahts” to me 26 years ago at a free fridge and i think of it every fucking single time i buy hummus to this day.

My very favorite band, Murder By Death, is hanging it up after 25 years. I made them this small painting and handed it off last night at their final Portland show. I'm going to miss them so much. Their music has meant a lot to me over the years.

Did a custom cover for The Hero Initiative recently and I'm pretty proud of it! Baby's first time trying an all-marker piece. I thought the paper would take it better than watercolor, but lol, lmao. Still looks good though!

Good news, everyone!
Good Devils: Don't Play Fair With Evil from me and @nickdragotta.bsky.social is finally available on Kindle and (most importantly) Hoopla, the free library ebook app!
I read mostly via Hoopla, so it's kinda cool to be up there. Check us out:

Good Devils: Don't Play Fair With Evil is here!
Me & @nickdragotta.bsky.social co-created it, @sievish.bsky.social designed it, and @erikaschnatz.bsky.social got us ready for press at Image. I feel really fortunate to have made another book entirely with friends. Rare feeling.
Anyway, please buy it!

Yo any sock-makers out there that make cute warm fuzzy socks? Maybe ones that look like cat paws or autumn colors or gothy shit or something cute like that? I want some cozy warm socks for my house and if I can get them from an independent artist instead of a big box store I'd love to do that.

Still in the lookout for people to take these tickets from us T-T. I’m like really sad I won’t go to their last tour, but gah! Definitely need these tickets to go to someone…
Seattle / Washington people! Does anyone need concert tickets to the Oh Hellos?

I have 2 of them because unfortunately they land on my surgery dates which is Oct 31st. Lemme know if anyone (or any one of your friends) needs some. We will just be charging door price or we can work a deal. 😭❤️

More good environmental news!! It’s possible to fix our mistakes!
Australia's humpback whales are doing so well that their population is expected to reach carrying capacity and plateau in the near future--they have not just reached but exceeded pre-whaling numbers. For this to happen with such a long-lived, slow-reproducing species is near miraculous. #goodnews
These whales were hunted to 150 individuals. Now there are 50,000 of them
Once hunted almost to extinction, the population of humpback whales currently migrating down Australia's east coast has bounced back and is now greater than before whaling.
