Good evening!

How did your day go?

I was away from the Internet all day. #Boating

Folks think we're crazy, it's cold on the ocean in Oct,
We dressed for it, caught a few fish, and shared some with my neighbour.

My cat is in a feeding frenzy. 😹

People took all the wrong lessons from Tolkien (fantasy race determinism, long-prophesied return of the king, lore coming out your ears)

and none of the right ones (subversive heroes who succeed through failure, overwhelming grief at the passing of an enchanted world).
People complain a lot about the influence of #Tolkien on fantasy, but I do think it’s fascinating a series about PTSD is so influential, and that ineffable sadness of a world long gone is such an interesting starting place for the modern genre

"I will take the Ring, though I do not know the way."

I love The Lord of the Rings. I've read it more times than I can count and yet somehow it never gets old. The parts that always made me cry still do, more meaningful than ever, and there's always something new. I love this book so much.

If you’re looking to start a new series this year, I’d thoroughly recommend Jodi Taylor’s Chronicles of St Mary’s.

Humour, history and a cast of endearing -and eccentric- characters.

Well worth checking out.

Always a good time to remind folks about alt text!

You can turn on a setting that doesn't let you post by mistake without alt text, I highly recommend this.

Also I know some people find it intimidating, but you don't need to be perfect. TRYING is the floor. Caring enough to try is good!
A "WHAT IS ALT TEXT AND HOW DO I EVEN DO IT?" PRIMER.

If anyone hangs out around Bluesky for long enough it's inevitable that they'll run into alt text discourse. Some of us may not even know what alt text is or how to use it or why it's important. WELL. Essentially, this text
