So it's a scene from the film Star Trek Into Darkness (TWoK2.0) starring Buckingham Crumplestarch. We're in some large atrium kind of room, full walls of windows with shining light coming through. That’s why TC had me use Universal Component in the first place.” She gave him a wry smile. “They were trying to use my formulas to make weapons, after all.” “Dammit, sunshine, we can’t just give up!” Jack insisted. “Not after all you went through to make sure they couldn’t do that!” Erin let out a soft sigh through her nose. “I guess I’ll just have to be content with the fact they don’t have any of my formulas at all.” “Yeah, but…” Jack hesitated, frustration evident in the pinch of his brows. His next words came out raw and breathy. “Fuck, sunshine. You were gonna save the world.” Her breath hitched, the hopelessness of it all hitting her in the chest like a wave. Tears spilled over her cheeks once more, hot and wet and thicker than before. Her vision blurred, but it didn’t matter once she buried her face in Jack’s broad, warm chest.

GeNoWriCha 2025 - Day 17 Day 17 word count: 28,032 out of 50,000 Erin couldn’t believe this. There wasn’t anything at all between them. Technically, she was his kidnapping victim, whisked away from everything she’d ever known because he’d popped up into her life to screw everything up. If he’d never been hired, she’d be home, working on her formula and cuddling with her cat. But he had been hired. And instead of killing her like he was hired to do, he saved her from what might have been a worse fate at the hands of Trance Corp. He kept her work from being twisted into something that could only be called evil. And he stuck around because…he felt responsible for her, she supposed. Or maybe he felt guilty. Not just for what was happening with her, but for all of the things he’d done since being spat out of a test tube and onto a battlefield. He was probably just keeping her alive as some kind of penitence. But, if that was the case, why would he hold her so sweetly after her nightmare? Erin pushed the thought away quickly, but not before it managed to make her chest ache with something she didn’t want to name. Because naming something gave it power. Naming something made it linger. She glanced over her shoulder at Jack, watching as his pout shifted into a soft smile when he caught her looking. It was too late. Even without a name, that feeling was going to make itself at home in the spaces between her ribs, honey sweet and sticky. She was royally and utterly fucked.
