fuck the Democratic party 👍
As Trump drags us into an Iraq-style war in Venezuela, 312 members of the House — including 115 Democrats — just voted to authorize over $900 billion in military spending.

Charles Manson or Hannibal Lecter could do this, and would be just as dangerous to a person vulnerable to it.

But they couldn't do it 24/7, whenever desired, for as long as desired. They'd still have other things to do, need to sleep and take a shit and such.

They're using the confinement box, one of the most horrific methods of CIA torture in the post-9/11 black sites, against migrants now. This is the direct result of the lack of consequences for the architects of the torture program. Either there will be criminal penalties for this or it will expand.
Torture Techniques from CIA Black Sites Were Used at Alligator Alcatraz
Amnesty International, interviewing migrant detainees, identifies use of the confinement box. There can be no denying it is a torture prison

What is next for MAGA?

I wrote about the MAGA civil war, the dynamics shaping this ugly struggle for supremacy on the Right, what Trumpism without Trump might look like, and why MAGA is likely to emerge more ideological and more radical.

Some thoughts from my new piece for @zeit.de:
MAGA: Wie MAGA um die Zeit nach Trump kämpft
Donald Trumps Macht über seine Bewegung wird rissig. Sie streitet schon jetzt, wer nach ihm kommt – und zwar auf ihre Art: Die Rede ist vom MAGA-Bürgerkrieg.

Key to understanding conservative ideology:
Jason's mostly right but it _is_ political; this thought process, while not unique to the right, is universal on the right. This terror of difference, this falsely aggrieved obsession with not only being what you conceive as normal but demanding it of everybody, is core to conservative psychology.
This is actually quite brilliant, up to and including the final sentence 🔥

Anecdotally on twitter seeing a big shift the last few days from every AI slop account saying every other creative field is “over” and they’re in control now to now posting about how nobody likes them and it’s not fair and they’ll persevere and real artists respect and uplift eachother

Think about how if you ask normal people what makes them mad, they respond with verbs. People doing things. Getting cut off in traffic, dropping their pizza, people who fart in public, etc.

When you ask Republicans they always respond with nouns: women. Immigrants. Pronouns. Teachers.

Propaganda is more effective via social media.
'Small changes to the tone of posts fed to users of X can increase feelings of political polarisation as much in a week as would have historically taken at least three years, research has found.' 1/3
Small changes to ‘for you’ feed on X can rapidly increase political polarisation
Study finds that a week of political content can bring about a shift in views that previously would have taken three years

Marimar Martinez is a US citizen who was shot by ICE five times in Chicago.

She was then arrested, labelled a “domestic terrorist” and slandered on social media.

All charges against her have been dropped.

In this interview she shows on of the seven holes the ICE agent put in her body.

would "hostage taking" include the position "hey support this guy who doesn't support your right to live, or else fuck off, because we'd rather try to win it without you than try to win it without anti-trans bigots who despise you?"

because you're right, I don't think people respond well to that
I just think people generally don’t respond well to hostage taking in politics, and will be more inclined to just shrug and say “ehh we will probably win without you, so fuck off” than to bend the knee. So all this kind of tactic achieves is somewhat increasing the odds we get a president Vance.

We should have a law whereby all presidential candidates must be able to qualify for the highest security clearance…not be bestowed one simply by being elected. To qualify you cannot have dealings with adversarial countries, you can’t be in debt, you can’t be a felon, etc.

Thread, now as much as ever
I've always liked the demonological argument for not summoning spirits of loved ones: whatever shows up, may only *resemble* the loved one to an arbitrary degree due to torturing or surveilling them to mimic them persuasively.

In 1999, when Trump was in his 50s, he said daughter Ivanka made him “swear to her that I would never date a girl younger than her." Ivanka was 17 then. The age of consent in NY is 17. So, in effect, Ivanka was asking Trump not to commit statutory rape.
Listen to Donald Trump recount how his 17-year-old daughter made him 'swear' not to date someone younger than her

Ideas are cheap. It’s the whole “1% inspiration / 99% perspiration” truism, which inversely predicts pay share.
something I'm surprised gen AI discourse didn't hit yet is the attitude "I asked for it to be done, so I made it" has always been how rich people view using workers who have trained skills and do the technical side. they see themselves as creators for having an idea, we were just a means to that end
