NEW: In the weeks leading up to a massive ICE raid at a South Shore apartment building, neighbors saw drones surveilling the area, and teachers at a nearby school regularly saw agents in the neighborhood.

Federal Agents Storm South Shore Building, Detaining Families and Children
Families were woken by flashbangs and helicopters as hundreds of federal agents raided their homes. Days later, neighbors are still searching for the missing.

This is a modern Fugitive Slave Act. Federal agents going into free states raiding buildings, busting down doors, and snatching up children. Rounding up every person of color without papers and sending them god knows where. If the government can do this, you are not a free person.

I'm beyond grateful for the millions more who are fighting back and working their asses off every day for all of us. But it's just sad af seeing how down bad so many people are rn

It's so wild that millions of people will accept an authoritarian takeover so long as they collect a paycheck every two weeks & have stable Internet connection. COVID & capitalism completely hollowed us out. The only freedom we value is consumption & convenience. A bunch of dollar tree zombies

The thing I respect about Greta Thunberg is that she understands most people in the Western world don’t give a shit about atrocities until someone white is affected.

So she’s doing what needs to be done to keep up the pressure.

If more white folks followed that example, we’d all be fine.

The fall of Chappelle is so tragic. I'm old enough to remember when he left the country to avoid money. Now he's out here tap dancing for dirty dollars. He's just a bitter & hateful old rich man doing dated stand-up. His art used to challenge power & privilege. Now he's become it.

Stand up comedians go in the same vocational bucket to me as podcasters where the ones I enjoy are some of the most talented and wonderful people in the world but at a baseline I regard them as human scum

Ughh I hate autocorrect, it's "insidious" not "industrious" lol although the second kinda applies too bc these ideas are produced at an industrial scale
clarenceokoh.bsky.social
In the US, we are conditioned from childhood to devalue historical atrocities against nonwhite people— if we are ever taught about them at all. It reflects a racial hierarchy of human life that shapes how we interpret the world around us today. It's industrious, but it can be unlearned

A big tell is when they can only compare ICE raids to Nazis and never to slave patrols or white settler violence. It's low-key a sign of internalized racism.

Ask yourself why authoritarianism is a *foreign* concept in your imagination? Who taught you that? Who benefits from that thinking?

My favorite armchair comment is Americans don‘t understand authoritarianism, because so many of you don’t count Black people as Americans. Learn the history or shut up.

Not sure if you've ever read Rudy's three-part series "Blacksky: Expressing the Black Everyday in a New Digital Space" from a couple of years ago but it's great grounding for the work he and the team have done since then.

This is very bad journalism. The experts cited are highly controversial figures that do not reflect the consensus of the field. Suggesting that the military use predictive policing as an "evidence based" strategy against civilians is reckless, unethical & irresponsible. I expect more @npr.org

We are losing something by having newsrooms where everyone who has more than a few years’ experience has gotten fired. I don’t fault a young writer for not knowing about things that happened before she was born. But now there are no editors to help give context to these stories, either.

“Kavanaugh stops” is a tremendous term term for cops racially profiling people and someone should start a crowdfunding effort to pay a bunch of SEC sorority influencers to popularize it on TikTok. We must fight fire with devastating trending topics slate.com/news-and-pol...
There’s a New Lawsuit Against “Kavanaugh Stops.” It’s Absolutely Devastating.
These detentions, far from the “brief” inconvenience the justice described, are often lengthy, violent, and dangerous.

Black folk will tell you: The 1st thing cops say after an incident is always a lie.🤷🏿‍♂️

They lie because there's upside in it for them, and no downside.

No matter how many times they get caught lying, newspapers will print their next lie as the gospel truth.🤡

And people stop caring before truth hits

ICE lied about the person it shot, claiming he was a "criminal," but NBC finds that he had no criminal history whatsoever. Not even traffic tickets in 12 years! It also lied about the extent of the injuries to its agents....

We also need to revisit "not voting as a form of protest" after the 2024 election. the lack of popular support for the centrist candidate did not change the party's behavior, at all. If anything, it pushed Dems even further right. The protest vote failed & we have to remember that in future cycles

Not voting for Kamala is your right. But saying both candidates were the same is a lie and everyone knows its a lie.
