"Often in books where romance is central, our romantic leads come to the page with no apparent pasts—no exes, no awkward one night stands—unless, of course, those pasts are the villains or deliver narratively necessary trauma. They are narratively, if not literally, virginal." GREAT read, damn

I mean the opening question in your interview is "Talk to me about the strap-on."
Which combined with your impeccable taste has me utterly intrigued.
clclark.bsky.social
😏 no, just pick it up bc i have impeccable taste and you trust me.
clclark.bsky.social
also, at this point, i think it won’t be a cl clark picture unless there are kettlebells in the background. it’s never intentional, it’s just that they’re all in my office. 🤷‍♂️
clclark.bsky.social
for now, you have me five books in the hole, with three more officially on the way and far too many in taking up real estate in the back of my mind.

also, since last week, i’ve been thinking about what it means to have a career in fiction and how that’s balanced out with notions of art. that’s resulted in this post.

i’m very curious what i will think of this question ten years from now, and twenty, and more.

Career…or craft?
Are they mutually exclusive?

Not only is the book amazing but it’s thrilling to see the thought that went into work if you’re interested in lesbian/butchness/genderqueerness in literature—that whole space. We talked about it in our interview last year:

If you haven't read The Unbroken by CL Clark, it's brilliant and on sale for $4.99 at Kobo (and presumably elsewhere). SO GOOD + the final bk in the trilogy just came out! Highly rec'd. Military fantasy deeply immersed in colonialism, two mesmerizing women, a queen and a conscript soldier. SO GOOD.
Screenshot of the AMAZING cover art for The Unbroken by CL Clark, showing a muscular black woman standing in a moorish arch doorway with her bare arms extended to touch the post on either side, wearing what looks like black leather armor and a sword in a belt, with a blurry dusty yellow scene behind the arch. Text in white near the top reads, "Every empire demands revolution."

2025-36. The Unbroken, by @clclark.bsky.social - 5/5
I re-read book 1, now that I have the entire trilogy in my hands to read in one long go.
Still an amazing book about colonialism, compromise, faith, love (in all shades) and sad realism.
Book cover: Touraine, one of the main characters, a black woman with short hair in a vest, with stretched arms touching the sides of an arab-style arch

One time my very southern maternal grandmother said somebody looked like both a "young chicken" and a "skinned squirrel" and I'll be DAMNED if that wasn't exactly what the person looked like 😭

i actually know the name of every cologne they wear; i based them off of real scents. one day soon, perhaps, i will share them. 😈

"Sabine smelled of autumn, apples and woodsmoke, warm spices."

What do we need to do to get a @clclark.bsky.social @allylouks.bsky.social crossover event on how smells convey personality in fiction?

I know that Luca washes her hair in rose soap, and Touraine wears a smoky cologne.

As a frequent user of the ponds, it disgusts me that terfs are taking a beautiful place and pouring their hate into it. Please fill in this survey if you want to protect this space for all women and make trans women feel. PS the ducks think terfs suck. And the friendly fox. And the crows.

The Gender Critical have already inundated this survey with their disgusting views on banning trans people from using the ponds.

Would be a shame if we inundated with trans positive views on not banning trans people.
