@coachbryan.bsky.social
Youth Sports Coach. Beach Volleyball Athlete. College Guidance Mentor. Cat Dad. Humanitarian. I try to help people see the best parts of themselves. I'm just trying to leave this place a little better than I found it. He/Him
This term isn't anything new, just means a school a student knows their grades are good enough to get in with certainty.

But with only 41% of students enrolling in 4-year schools graduating from that school within 4 years, we need a huge overhaul on how kids choose schools. It's a broken system atm
And this is another thing, I hadn’t heard of this. A friend of mine says her daughters are applying to colleges, and apparently they have something called “safety schools” now?

I'm not looking to "disrupt the system". I want orgs that currently give bad coaches to underdeveloped athletes to lose those athletes. But families stay w/ bad situations when they think it's their best option.

I know the healthy alternative works. It's just a matter of mythbusting/awareness.
Some of us are authentic, but I do think words matter.

Youth sports is currently a 37B dollar industry by selling false promises to families that expensive travel schedules equal scholarships. There are no healthy alternatives/transparency in our area.

I'm committed to find those alternatives :)
I figure any time someone talks about wanting to "disrupt" an industry, they really mean "I want to gut it, chase the people who care about it out, and make a giant pile of money off its slain corpse"

I only worked in an office setting for a few years, but had a VERY fun work environment at my first stop. Great boss, great relationships w/ the 8 ppl in our room.

Haven't seen any of them in over a decade since I left.

Gaslighting on steroids nowadays, when will objectivity be valued again?
Dear Gen Z.
I am VERY 40. I can barely remember the names of the people I worked with in my 20’s. We weren’t friends. Capitalism just forced us to do group projects together in exchange for life tokens.

For the politically active, I feel these type of posts are the most effective.

No name-calling, no implications of evil. Just show their words & contradictions. Show when their pursuit of power at all costs is front-and-center.

We can't insult/attack those whose perspectives we hope to change.

If you're reading this, I see you. You matter. I run the only program of its kind in the area to benefit kids, I have few allies in my money-driven industry. It can be lonely & exhausting.

I also have ppl that appreciate what I do. It's important for me to not forget them.

Be good to yourselves ❤️
To clarify, I'm not knocking the ppl doing this. We've endured some crazy shit over recent years.

I just ask people to consider, is what you're consuming providing value / helping you control what you can control, are your posts helping connect w/ like-minded GOOD ppl? Or is it amplifying dread?
I haven't been on as much. I think that's been good for me.

I like how a lot of ppl here align ethically. There's also a lot of destructive doom-and-gloom. I don't mind bringing attention to uncomfortable truths, sometimes it's a little too hopeless. For bsky to thrive that could be problematic.

I coach young women. Many come from other program where even as beginners, they are judged by their results.

It's absurd.

We emphasize the greatness/potential we see in them, and then we help them through their mistakes building resilience/self confidence along the way.

Everyone deserves this.

"We always tried to do it the right way. The goal was always to help players create more value for their future, be the best player they could be and be more successful in life because they were part of the program."

Thank you Nick Saban. I don't think I could better describe my own aspirations.

I know I mentioned it before, masked in public most of this week as I had a sore throat, saddened by the looks from people whose holiday I was simply trying not to compromise.
Everyone I know is like damn I’ve got this thing where I’m always coughing and have a fever that I just can’t shake, anyways off to visit grandma for Christmas!

I give a hall pass for generations w/o internet. But takes like the original one baffle me.

We know 50% of marriages don't last. We have more opportunity to grow/change/evolve later in life. Yet we want to put a "norm" on what age to accomplish things that shouldn't have a 1-size-fits-all vibe.
It’s just really funny that these people keep trying to tell us Taylor Swift comes home like Edna Krabapple from the Simpsons eating her soup for one on a TV dinner tray as the rain falls outside

REMINDER FOR CHILDREN OF ALL AGES:

"I wish you a lifetime filled with happiness, peace, good health, prosperity, and, most of all, love - the greatest gift. I will always love you, wherever you are. You are a gift and blessing. You are wonderful just the way you are."

A nice activity as I recover from whatever this bug is was this @weratedogs.bsky.social puzzle. Highly recommend and glad I saw it on here a few months back!

Been masking the last two days as I've had a sore throat/ppl around me getting sick. Forgot about "the looks".

And it's like... I genuinely feel sorry that they've been told I'm the enemy/a threat to their way of life. I'm just trying to go above and beyond to make sure I don't ruin their holiday.

Jayden we're 8 days away, you were so close to Christmas. What happened?

(Can you tell I'm overtired)

The last few years have kicked me in the face.

But I've picked myself up every time, and I'm grateful to have an incredible support group. Today was a 16.5 hour day at the facility. But I find myself wide awake, feeling an confidence that's been missing for awhile.

Feeling that spark coming back.

Sorry I've been quiet here - been busy but good busy. Tuesday I hit a pretty low point, but feel since then I've made some good moves and I know it's getting there.

Anyways, just wanted to leave this reminder - I know we're all exhausted, better days ahead! ❤️

Some stranger, somewhere,
remembers you, because
you were kind to them :-)}

Aside from a 30 minute gap, I was coaching or talking to someone non-stop for 10.5 hours.

I love what I do, I'm so fucking tired. I feel like I'm doing what I should be doing here but some days I feel like the universe is pushing my limits.

It's always provided enough. But when will it slow down?

Not saying this in a judgmental way, but hoping to find some ppl to follow.

I have plenty of "leftists do this, right-wingers do that" content. Looking for ppl that discuss constructive solutions to the problems that ail them/write things that leave readers in a better place. Any suggestions?

As someone who used to shop here, this was valuable information when I learned it. Hope it helps some other romantics out there when selecting jewelers! Yikesss
It's the time of year when everything gets sparkly & Swarovski crystal-bedazzled stuff is for sale everywhere, so here is your reminder that the Swarovski family were full-on, torchlight-marching, love-letter-to-Hitler-sending Nazis & the company is still family-owned & has never dealt w/ it.
