Incredible - all the reporting on this I've heard called them "heat pumps". Never ascribe to malice and all that but it does feel like somebody thought "heat pump" was more newsworthy than "water pump"

Dublin is obvs v vulnerable to damage from rising sea levels. Limerick and Galway too. Cork not so much, if they invest properly (not quay walls on Morrison's Island, rather a tidal barrier btw Glanmire/Mahon in the short run and at Roche's Pt in the long run).

You might easily take this for tropical rainforest in some faraway country.

But it's an Irish temperate rainforest, a much *rarer* habitat.

And it's equally threatened, only by masses of deer, goats, and sheep, rather than chainsaws or bulldozers.

It doesn't get much greener on the Irish grid: up to 6pm, renewable generation today has equalled 83.1% of electricity demand. Only a dozen or so prior days have done better. With lower weekend demand, there's a chance we'll see an all-time low for daily carbon emissions.
