I mean how can you argue with such a well written sentence like that? A+ grade, easily

A key point in Fahrenheit 451 is that books were banned because they made people depressed and uncomfortable. The novel's protagonist, Montag, is taken into custody after he reads a poem that makes a woman cry because she realizes the emptiness of her life.

It was only a matter of time.

It was obvious that the backlash to Discovery was a kneejerk reaction to it not being a TNG era style show with some bigotry thrown in there too.

Ironic that it’s SNW, which has regularly been praised because it wasn’t Discovery, that caused this reevaluation.

The reason I don't like Firefly is that it is embarrassed to be space opera. Also the complete lack of Asians in a supposedly Chinese-dominated society. And the weird thing where sex workers are supposedly respected but also looked down upon by the narrative. And the cult around it.

Tech bros identify as perfectly rational logical beings and they see code as rational and logical so they identify more with code than they do with genuine human beings who aren't the same as them.

Thinking about how "Humanity, Fuck Yeah!" fiction right now. The version of humanity presented in HFY is militaristic, defined by strength and biological superiority. In contrast, aliens are shown to wonder at the most basic of things- freezing flavored liquid and eating it as a snack, for example.

Newspapers being deluged w/cliched, formulaic Spring poems by amateurs & less discriminating papers publishing them were perennial jokes in the 19th century press.

Here's one from the humor magazine Tid-Bits, April 17, 1886 - here mainly needling rote composition w/tired rhymes.

That's about 128 cubic feet- so enough to fill a closet or flood a small room.
>"Could Janeway have drunk enough coffee to fill the ship?"

No. Janeway's coffee consumption might be legendary, but Voyager's total volume is far greater than 1000 gallons. At 344,000 cubic meters, even if her coffee were stored as liquid throughout the ship, it would barely make a dent.

The difference between 60s/70s magazine "confession" articles and Reddit AITA posts is that the former were paid for, while the latter were written for the fun of it.
