I don't work in my discipline, but my discipline is essential to my work.

English at the undergraduate level is also a feeder discipline into other areas (e.g. law) that require that skill set.

The humanities shouldn't need to justify their existence. They're essential to daily life AND culture.

I have a degree in English and literally use it every day.

I don't mean that in a snarky way, or just because I like to write.

I mean that I do work that requires me to communicate clearly, concisely, and accurately in a professional context, and to draft language for specific situations.

An English degree serves two, main purposes:

1. It teaches how to write stories which both exist within and in reaction to the world and times in which they are written.

2. It teaches how to analyze stories and relate that analysis in a way that elucidates the relationship between art and life.
