"So much of the potency of the Epstein conspiracy is that it speaks to a core feeling for many that the alienation, stagnation, and fear they experience is all the result of a genuinely evil class of elites."

At what point does the penny drop that evil arrives on private jets, not small boats?
I wrote about what I think is a genuinely revealing document of elite depravity and impunity. It is shocking and sickening. But it's also a crucial moment. We're about to see what happens when conspiracy theorists actually get what they asked for but it turns out not to be what they want.
You Really Need to See Epstein’s Birthday Book for Yourself
This time, the conspiracy theorists were right.

Instead he gets "Allan’s past colleagues describe him as charming and collegiate". Yikes.

This is how the Hostile Environment works btw. We've had it in the UK for 13 years. It loves exploitative employers and exploitative employers alone.
Another infuriating aspect of ICE roaming around D.C. that I hadn't thought about.

I just talked to a D.C. woman whose husband is undocumented and whose employer is refusing to pay him for work he's already done -- and threatening to call ICE if he keeps asking for the money he's owed.

Totally agree with the point that the public should not be asked to confront shoplifters. But the thing we should be worried about are the forms of discrimination arising from legitimised vigilantism.

The real question we need to consider is who will be confronted if this were followed...
Our Tory police and crime commissioner should hang his head in shame.

No, the public should not be asked to confront criminals. It’s dangerous and irresponsible.

Please, if you’re witnessing a crime or the victim of one, call the police

With all respect, the Court will eventually overturn Obergefell. It may not be Kim Davis’s petition. But it will happen.

The conservatives will argue that there’s no history and tradition of same sex marriage. And they will rely on Glucksberg.

I have an article coming out tomorrow about this.
I urge everyone who is understandably disturbed by the petition news to consider how very unlikely it is for the Court to even take this up, much less reverse Obergefell. Unlike abortion, marriage opponents don’t have the same social movement that anti-abortion forces did, which was core to the GOP.
Obergefell v. Hodges made me believe in the whole "arc of history bends towards justice." In the 90s, I didn't think gay marriage would be legalized in my lifetime because homophobia was so deeply ingrained. We would have never gotten here without the decision and now it may be overturned.

One of the most urgent crises in the criminal justice system is that allegations of rape and serious sexual offending take five years to reach trial.

Any politician who claims to care about sexual violence and is silent on this issue has another agenda.

Miliband is right *and* apparently the only major figure in the current government to have looked across the pond, decided that was bad, and determined that *not* doing what the Democrats did might in fact be a good shout.
Miliband is right and the sooner Labour dispenses with McSweeney the better. Attacking Farage by Starmer posturing like a Reform wannabe is an "interesting" strategy.
