Obsession with heritage is the last refuge of morons. I’m related to more Ohio-born presidents than JD Vance can name, but it’s my commitment to the Constitution and human rights that defines my patriotism, not a pathetic attempt to hang my value on the heads of my dead ancestors

During his first admin his AG had to resign because he was the one that cut the sweetheart deal with Epstein, and violated the victims civil rights by not informing them.
Trump frustrated at never-ending Epstein saga, calls on DOJ to release names of only Dems connected to Epstein to “embarrass them” and suggests that despite legal requirement to release everything, DOJ should consider saying “no more.”

Well, we made it through the first year of Trump’s second term—and I’m taking stock of what happened & why we’ve got to keep fighting back.

2025 RECAP: Let's start with Trump unleashing chaos on the American people by letting Elon Musk and DOGE break the federal government.

Howie reached out to me when I launched my campaign in April to grill me on policy, but I insisted on extracting all his rock stories and gushing to him about @crooksandliars.bsky.social’s central place in my mid-aughts political awakening. I am so lucky to have known him, even if just for 8 months.
My good friend Howie Klein passed away today and I am bereft. He was a fierce progressive, music impressario, creative organizer, passionate world traveller and the mensch of all mensches.

Howie always fought the good fight and inspired many to do the same. I will miss him terribly.

The racist attempt to turn the U.S. into a fully self-sufficient autarky will only decrease outside investment and make all of us poorer.

Trump and his friends are hastening America's decline.
This piece is a great illustration of how the long-term effect of Trump’s destruction of US institutions won’t be felt in a dramatic market collapse, but rather in permanently worse economic conditions, and lower prosperity.

PARDONS FOR SALE

Trump has turned presidential pardons into a shopping experience, with lobbyists openly quoting a going rate of $1 million and a faster “track” if you can corner him at Mar-a-Lago or a White House event.

Maybe this will be the year that the press & pundits finally tamp down their obsessive coverage of trump voters & focus instead on a much larger part of America: the millions & millions who hate what trump is doing & continue to say so in elections & at massive protest events like these:
At the start of 2025, some people questioned whether the resistance was dead. They doubted that Trump’s authoritarian agenda would be met with defiance and backlash.
