The number of adults who believe Donald Trump has magical powers to bend all of spacetime to his whims, while also bragging about how he identified a giraffe on a test, is disturbing. Trump can't just decide we don't have elections or government anymore, and get everyone to nod along.
the question to ask about this is, okay, he wants to cancel the midterms. how does he get the VA state board of elections to cancel the midterms? how does he get the georgia board of elections to do it? how does he convince republican house members to quit their jobs and give up their paychecks?
Trump says a lot of deranged shit, but, per this Reuters article — and the threats of invoking the Insurrection Act in Minnesota this morning — he is very clearly exploring how to cancel the midterms.

let's say the president wants to suppress the vote in detroit. assuming a conventional 20 soldiers for every 1000 civilians ration, he would need more than 12,000 ICE agents — more than double the current number of field officers — to occupy detroit and only detroit, a city of 630,000 people
imho people are focusing on the words "cancel the midterms" and saying uh actually a president cannot do that at the expense of what they would actually try to do, ie send troops/ice into liberal cities to suppress the vote

What Trump and his viceroys are doing - shooting white women in the face, beating up protestors, threatening to seize Greenland - is incredibly unpopular. It is electoral poison. It doesn't matter to Trump, but his conduct is ensuring massive Dem turnout and GOP disinterest in the midterms.

FWIW, this is why I'm not afraid of Trump attempting to declare nationwide martial law. To enforce it, he would need every single person involved with any aspect of local, county, or state law enforcement - plus a million+ military and militia. They don't have the numbers or the public buy-in.

90% of the ATF agents I see stuck with DHS guys look near suicidal.
DHS has never gotten much respect in law enforcement and intelligence communities (in the latter it was basically second to last in the pecking order). Now it’s suddenly flush with cash and high priority and I think it’s very much botching the opportunity at every turn.
ICE writing long screeds whining about someone from Cato calling out their bullshit shows how they know they're losing the narrative here. No one likes ICE. No one trusts ICE. And they're flipping out about how weak they look.

ICE just chased everyone off the public road by the Broadview facility. They yelled for people to move and immediately began firing gas into the crowd, which included legal observers, press, and medics.

A man was just chased and arrested outside of the Broadview ICE facility in Chicago. When legal observers from the National Lawyers Guild asked why, an agent threatened to arrest them too.

I'm coming around to the idea that it's been so hard to pin a motive on Robinson shooting Kirk because even Robinson doesn't know why he did it. He just didn't like Kirk for some reason he can't articulate.

I'm coming around to the idea that it's been so hard to pin a motive on Robinson shooting Kirk because even Robinson doesn't know why he did it. He just didn't like Kirk for some reason he can't articulate.
