The Trump Administration is once again stealing directly from the Nazi playbook. Just substitute Jews for migrants. Trump (along with Bannon & Miller) has been pushing this “migrant crime” hysteria since his 5th day in office. See this story from March 2017: www.thewrap.com/der-sturmer-...
But mass-slander-by-anecdote has a long tradition. As The Atlantic explains: In The Nazi Conscience, Duke historian Claudia Koonz notes that the Nazi newspaper Der Sturmer ran a feature called "Letter Box," which ublished readers accounts of Jewish crimes. When the Nazis took power, the German state began doing something similar. Frustrated by the failure of most Germans to participate in a boycott of Jewish businesses in April 1933, Adolf Hitler's government began publicizing Jewish crime statistics as a way of stoking anti-Semitism. Trump introduced a new government entity Tuesday that will similarly flag and highlight crimes by illegal immigrants - without, of course, providing any context about how many crimes they commit compared to U.S. citizens, or how illegal immigrants as a group might contribute positively to American society. "The office is called VOICE - Victims Of Immigration Crime Engagement," Trump explained. "We are providing a voice to those who have been ignored by our media, and silenced by special interests."

This clip is even more insane considering that in her book she basically admits that she encouraged him to drop out and join the Trump administration.
Still, the same uncertain environment, the same spirit of chaos, also presented an opportunity: Those who could abide the ridicule inherent to associating with the president would have the chance to benefit from his uncommon openness and suggestibility. I cited the example of Kim Kardashian. In the first administration, she had managed to lobby the president successfully to commute the sentence of a woman serving a lifelong prison term for a nonviolent drug offense and to sign into law criminal justice reform legislation called the First Step Act. For her willingness to appear foolish standing alongside the president, a kind of courage, she had wrought genuine good for others. He was also clear-eyed about the president himself. “I always thought of him as a novel: hundreds of lies that amount to one big truth,” he told me. As someone whose job was to bear witness to the president and explain what I had seen to others, and who had devoted many thousands of words over many years to doing so, this concise description struck me as about perfect. As a writer I was almost jealous—and I loved that. It was his responsibility to try his best to live up to their belief, to treat his every decision as a candidate, even if the decision was to end his candidacy, as a presidential decision, made in the manner of a public servant, with all personal concerns—about backlash in Hollywood and related friction in his private life—pushed aside in favor of the central concern of what would be best for the country. I was sure he could do that, I said, because I trusted him that much. He started to cry. “I wish I could just be with you,” he said.
