If the figures we're getting out of Iran are in the right league, this weekend was, I think, one of the bloodiest state crackdowns of all time. People are talking 12,000-20,000 dead; for comparison Hungary in 1956 was about 2,500, Tiananmen - across country, in multiple cities - probably 1000+

We need this security agreement. It will be ideal if France, Britain, Germany, Sweden, and Poland could all agree to post-war security guarantees for Ukraine. This would be the foundation upon which a democratic European military alliance can be built without the U.S.

It is both true that Trump's intervention is about the oil AND that it makes no sense as a capitalist matter.
