Labour faced an exhausted Government, surprised by the vigour of the attack from Reform, with the stench of corruption hanging over it, one which ran an unlucky campaign, and won 33.7% of the popular vote. Selling that to the media as a glorious success is McSweeney's sole political achievement.
And the reasons for that are not hard to find - Starmer’s unpopularity among left-liberals is the logical, arguably even intended consequence of 18 months of comms and policy which alienates and angers left-liberals while winning over no one on right. This is the cake his team have baked themselves.

We had a good, one-hour-long call with President Trump, President Zelenskyy and several European leaders to discuss their meeting today on peace negotiations.

There was good progress, which we welcomed.

i don't care that you like it. make it a subscription service and you pay for it.

The lessons to take from this:

1) If you're in the US, leverage that legal protection to say these things for your UK friends who can't!

2) Stop fucking giving Head Bigot JK Rowling money to finance legal terrorism against people who identify raging bigots as raging bigots.

This is because for every dollar you spend on Harry Potter media or merchandise, a large portion of it goes to Head Bigot JK Rowling, who specifically uses that money to finance her fellow raging bigots threatening ruinous lawsuits against UK people who point out their raging bigotry.

It blows my mind that you can create a startup based on a fucking absurd series of lies and impossible promises, make billions of dollars while companies cut staffing believing the lie, then walk away from the smoldering crater without being guillotined straight to hell

Can't wait to mine for genAI NFTs in the metaverse with my VR headset and minting it all on the Blockchain, and in the evening I will count my beanie babies and secure my retirement with big event issues of 90s comics, and invest in sub-prime mortgages and tulip bulb futures. The line only goes up!
GenAI is inevitable and if you think otherwise, I dare you to say it to my (virtual) face, just put on your VR headset and meet me outside the 404'd NFT gallery in the metaverse
GenAI is inevitable and will definitely be a major part of every art form from now on. Just like NFTs!

Full responsibility for this calamitous decision rests with Bridget Phillipson who was told by two committees of MPs that Mary-Ann Stephenson was out of her depth - and it was clear she was transphobic - but chose to appoint her anyway.
Just in case there was any doubt about Mary-Ann Stephenson being both biased (so unqualified to Chair the EHRC) and out of her depth here she hangs her hat on the hideous guidance drawn up by her predecessor - without waiting for the results of the High Court challenge which may find it unlawful.

OF COURSE it was going to come to this... Indiana now saying it's not enough for adult websites to block people in response to state age-verification law—since VPNs exist, they're still in violation.

That leaves 3 options for porn platforms: check IDs, don't exist, or block all VPNs...
Porn sites must block VPNs to comply with Indiana's age-verification law, state suggests in new lawsuit
Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita says porn sites must block VPNs to satisfy the state’s age-verification requirements.

There's an appealingly simple logic to anti-tech arguments: phone & social media use went up, so did bad things. Ergo, the phones & Instagram did it

Correlation is 9/10 of moral-panic law

But a growing body of research challenges easy narratives about young people & tech
Young people's mental health is improving. Tech alarmists take note.
Depression and anxiety are declining, adding yet more complications to the anti-smartphone and anti–social media narratives.

They know.

Labour aren't doing what they're doing to see off Reform. They are doing what they are doing because it is what they want to do.
Labour have got to get it into their heads that far and away their biggest threat in Wales is coming from the left.

Over 50% of their 2024 voters have gone to Plaid/Greens. Just 10% are going to Reform.

Being tough on immigration is hurting, not helping them.

A fantastic account to follow. Lots to learn there.
It is strange how often gender critical activists and far right commenters fixate on things like straws when they reply. When you ask them direct questions about rights policy or consequences they have nothing to say. No answers. No arguments. Just trivial distractions. That tells you everything

Every writer who generates a slop image for their work is a class traitor.

"I can't afford a visual artist"

So your solution is stabbing artists in the back? Stealing from them?

Furthermore, slop-generated imagery suggests slop-generated writing. That's how you're presenting yourself.

They are literally begging regular people to come back. Don't do it! It is a website by and for actual Nazis!

If Labour wanted to know why it is tanking electorally trans rights would be a great case study. Not because people vote on trans rights; most don't. But because everyone - both the JKRs who hate trans people and trans people and their allies - can sniff out Labour's position as insincere bullshit.

Some of the best movies ever made were by Rob Reiner. They made us laugh and think: The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, A Few Good Men. And he was a force on screen as well in All in the Family and so many films.

What a tragic loss. Words fail with news like this.

Guys you can't ban VPN for kids without ALSO severely restricting the ability of adults to use VPNs without surveillance.

If this were proposed in Saudi Arabia or Myanmar or Hungary or Belarus, the British government would rightly call this what it is: a mandate for censorship.
UK Lords propose ban on VPNs for children
Amendment to the Children's Wellbeing and Schools Bill would force VPN providers to age-gate their services

Age-verification laws were poorly designed and have been poorly executed. Something we all warned about from the beginning.

Now, to cover their asses, the government is coming up with additional restrictions and additional surveillance.

And when this also fails, they'll go even further.

The Peggie ruling is so copiously reasoned, that appeal seems wishful thinking. Seems more like ‘appeal’ means keeping GC lawyers, already bloated on crowd-funding loot, well fed…
It also has profound implications in our ongoing judicial reviews involving the EHRC and NPCC. We’re very busy with it.
