“…as of March this year, 2,200 Palestinian families were completely wiped out from the civil registry, all of their members killed. More than 5,120 families had only one member left.”

The fate of the Noufal family echoes the tragedy of Palestinian families slowly being wiped out by genocide.

In which, remarkably, while talking about the fiscal bind, and even after Jeremy Hunt goes on about acting in the interests of the country, no one brings up the TWO NI cuts carried out largely if not solely for narrow party political ends. podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/h...

In an alternative timeline Scotland supports the most vulnerable with its massive wealth fund generated by sensible stewardship of its resources, we are at the ❤️ of Europe , the 🫅 no longer exists and all land is in public hands for benefit of the community, Farage and Trump have been refused visas.

Was asked the other day what can we do in such dark times. Of course we should find ways of resisting and speaking out. But also gave my generic advice. When unsure what to do, do what you think has the most chance of bringing joy to yourself and others and/or being of lasting value.

There really should be much more attention on the cost of living (as from @jeevunsandher.bsky.social here) and far less obsession with flags. People are really feeling the pain of inflation.
jeevunsandher.bsky.social
Today’s inflation stats show us that we need to get prices down and living standards rising. The good news is that we *will*.

Since 2021 overall prices have risen by 25%. But the price of essentials (food, rent, water) has risen by *far* more. This is hitting living standards.

Reminds me of the thought I had the other day that retirement is the process by which you stop doing the one thing you are good at and start doing other things that you can’t do very well.

Back at my printing night class (in-depth etching this time) and I will repeat my advice to academics: get a hobby. Preferably get a hobby that you can fail at and it doesn't matter. In facts it only makes it better.

Remember when Labour refused to set out its policies in the election to ‘make the target as small as possible’? They no longer have that excuse. They can’t please the press or their critics so they should go back to being a Labour Party and remember who they are here to help.

Over last 12 months Times&Telegraph have published nearly 1 article a day on the VAT changes for private schools!
But in spite of the uproar, the policy has not weakened the power of Britain’s most elite schools. @aaronreeves.bsky.social & @samfriedman.bsky.social suggest what might actually do it.
Taxing private schools won’t smash the class ceiling - British Politics and Policy at LSE
Labour's abolition of VAT on private schools is mostly sympbolic. Its mission of "smashing the class ceiling" needs to focus on elite university admissions next.
