another way in which LLMs make me feel like an alien as compared to their many fans: I find their default fawning conversational tone to be intensely, viscerally repulsive and suspicious.
for my specific style of Totally Normal Brain, a person acting weirdly fawning and inexplicably congratulatory like an llm would make me immediately skeptical of anything they say, so llms emulating that behavior as an intentional design choice is like wow i fucking hate this.

I was once lucky enough to briefly meet Jim Lovell - who had one of the most extraordinary stories of any human to date. All we talked about was how I had broken my leg. Feels like a bit of a waste but I guess he was maybe sick of the same old questions so got in there first. Ad astra lad.
