Vacuuming up the work of one high-profile artist and creating an exploitative zombie is a travesty and a crime. Vacuuming up the work of millions of writers and artists to make a composite exploitative zombie is merely a statistic.

Walz: "To Americans who are watching this, I've got a question for you: What side do you want to be on? The side of an all powerful federal govt that can kill, injury, menace, & kidnap its citizens off the streets? Or on the side of a nurse at the VA hospital who died bearing witness to such govt?"

Some thoughts:

1. The deadline for nominating a person or group for the Nobel Peace Prize is Feb. 1.

2. History professors are qualified nominators.

3. The people of Minnesota have been awe-inspiringly peaceful in the face of state violence.

4. He would be so mad.

Here's the thing, Greg — free speech is still protected by the First Amendment under the Constitution.

If you want folks to stop saying you're the secret police who are kidnapping and killing people, maybe stop acting like the secret police who are kidnapping and killing people.
Bovino: "When politicians, community leaders, & some journalists engage in that heated rhetoric we keep talking about, when they make the choice to vilify law enforcement calling law enforcement 'Gestapo' or using the term 'kidnapping,' that is a choice & there are actions & consequences."

part of why we are driving ICE absolutely mad is that we are using tactics that do not really permit them to legally arrest us. they cannot operate the way they want to operate when we have eyes on them.

they want to be a secret police and we simply will not let them be secret

I'm at the hearing in St. Paul where Minnesota is asking a federal judge to preserve evidence in Saturday's killing of Alex Pretti in Minneapolis. The judge issued a temporary restraining order, but feds are arguing it should be denied because they already plan on preserving the evidence. (1)

I said what I said about the silly people who say, "But there has to be a path back for MAGA folk!🤡" There has always been a path back. It's never been an issue at all. Many anti-MAGA folk spent some part of their life on the hateful side.

But the path back involves repair. Undoing harm. Like this.
He spent decades bringing the religious right to power. Now he's marching to undo it.

Rev. Rob Schenck spent decades helping build the Religious Right—commingling church and state to advance conservative causes. Now, he says he must confront the damage he helped cause.

part of this is like, conservatives projecting; part of this is conservatives unable to imagine politics without money; and part of this is dudes who are so out of touch with feminized labor that they think children's birthday parties exist as a spontaneous act of parthogenesis
I mostly just stay off Twitter altogether but after double checking that the Walter Hudson post was still up I ran across this and just had to share so the Romancelandians who bought hand warmers could hear about the PROFESSIONAL GRADE LOGISTICS.

I once read a thread on sexism in international relations/spying where women were instructed to make wrong claims about X whenever they wanted to get secret information on X; a man would just disclose the key info by means of mansplaining

BASH: Why was an unarmed man shot multiple times by your Border Patrol agents?

BOVINO: Dana, you don't know he was unarmed. I don't know he was unarmed. That's freeze frame adjudication. That's why we have an investigation.

BASH: It's not a freeze frame

This was just me making this comparison yesterday, but today the Korean news is calling Minnesota "America's Gwangju" and have human rights lawyers explaining how America is now living through the dictatorship Korea once had.
The Chun regime that my wife fought against in the 80s did the exact same thing. They needed a "crisis" that "only they could solve" to hoard more ill-gotten power, so they chose one city (Gwangju), declared its inhabitants enemies, sent trucks full of soldiers to violently attack and kill them.
