Years ago someone told a friend I'd never sell a novel; they said that two days before I got my first novel contract. Just today I saw someone saying that I'm not that good of a writer, which, okay, but I'm contracted for 16 more books, so I guess I'll keep at it.

It baffles me that ppl STILL argue about TTRPG systems and playstyles as if there's only one true way to enjoy them.
Not every DM, or system, or group, or story, or setting, or style, or priorities will be to your liking.
Others will like it.
Let them.

"Don't Engage, Just Block" absolutely IS the Bluesky motto. The notion of a "Bluesky Elder" is vaguely ridiculous but the ONE THING that we oldheads are good for is telling the new folks that blocking without engagement is praxis, and encouraging them to do it early and often.

You (/general) probably don’t like your art due to its flaws, but that’s the best part. No one makes mistakes or works with/around them quite the way you do. (You’ve also had longer to stare at it & pick it apart.) Most people won’t notice or will appreciate your unique flaws + approach. 💜

I can’t emphasize enough that it’s not a compliment to an artist to tell them that their work makes you want to quit drawing or hate your own work. Like shut that down before it even comes out

I'm happy to announce that in the middle of the night I woke up with the realization of what I needed to do to fix the story I'm working on, and instead of saying "I'll remember it" or scrawling it illegibly I reached for my phone and actually wrote it down.

One lesson I've taken from this industry is to be wary of creators who are only excited about themselves and their own work. I want you to love what you make! But what other writers set your imagination on fire? Who else do you celebrate? Who do you show up for?

The most realistic villains to write are just selfish jerks.
I know critics want depth and uncomfortable relatability, but "dude just wants wealth and power, and is willing to step on others to get it" might be the most relevant to reality villains in existence.
