"spoons" is maybe the most confused and confusing metaphor for how disability restricts your capacity to do things that ive ever heard.

RPG mana is right there, why are we worldbuilding this utensil-based capacity system?

Is anyone doing research or work with black kids who have long covid? I know that they have the highest rates of death. I’m wondering if anyone is focusing on disability caused by LC for black children or if they’re going unnoticed.

But generally speaking LC kids breaks my heart!!

“If you have a disability, your risk of experiencing food insecurity is more than double that of your fellow Canadians without a disability. That’s true even after holding constant other factors like age, education, immigration status, and housing tenure. This is shocking but sadly not surprising.”

In embryos, mRNA can determine pattern by being regionalized in one part of an embryo, allowing localized synthesis of a protein product. There are plenty of examples in which specific mRNAs are localized in cells - could this play a role in Stentor patterning?

We often think of cells as small, simple building blocks for larger organisms, but cells themselves can have very complex and beautiful structures. How can pattern formation, which we normally associate with development in embryos, happen in a single cell?

Where does pattern come from inside cells? in this revised preprint, @aralbright.bsky.social
Shows that regionalization of mRNA in a Stentor cell depends on dynein motors and the microtubule cytoskeleton

One of reasons I fear slippery slope into eugenics with assisted dying policies is how little outrage there is when disabled people are harmed

When DNRs are put on us without consent. When - like Stephanie Lavoie - we’re denied the care we need to survive & do MAiD instead

No one speaks up for us

I didn't know ecotheology was a thing. Reminds me of the platonists seeing the gods in nature, and the early christians seeing nature as the first bible. Relatedness is the way!
