This is completely true in baseball writing too

some of the best ideas come when you're researching A and accidentally stumble across B
Not a historian but like to research. The AI might summarize what I'm looking for, but it doesn't find what I'm *not* looking for. The book on the shelf next to the one I wanted. The insight in chapter 6 based on the quote I needed from chapter 4.

It’d be pretty simple.

“You’re a follower of Christ.”

“Yes”

“So you’re pro immigrant and believe they deserve the same rights as Americans?”

“…..”

“Cursed is anyone who withholds justice from the foreigner.” Deuteronomy 27:19

“Ughhh”

“Will you be playing this Sunday? The lords day?”

“Uhhhh”
solid piece. And it is on the media to hold Shaw accountable for espousing such views.
Making a decision to participate in a political movement that's anathema to many Americans — including a large percentage of Cubs fans — only ensures that Matt Shaw will remain in the spotlight in 2026.

Their were two Sam Cranes in baseball around this time. One highly respected who would go on the be a writer and one who would go on to be a murderer!

Guess which one we covered?

Did you hear about the betting scandal in baseball?

Of course we mean the 1882 scandal featuring former player/manager Dick Higham. Hear all about his career and downfall!

Congratulations to the newest Hall of Famer, Jeff Kent. Fun fact (?): The Tracker was a thing for all 10 years of Jeff Kent's run on the BBWAA ballot. He received a total of 998 votes over that decade from the writers and the Tracker was able to log 774 of those as public votes (77.6%). Fun!

Looks like the only one of these inductees who had been previously honored in the various Latin American-based Halls of Fame is Carmelo Martínez. He was inducted into the Caribbean Baseball Hall of Fame in 2004. In 35 CARS games, he hit 10 HR, batted .277, and slugged .589. He was MVP in 1987.

Aw man, RIP George Altman. After appearing with the 1955 Kansas City Monarchs, he finally made the majors in 1959 with the Cubs. He was an All-Star in 1961 (.303, 27 HR, 96 RBI) and 1962 (.318, 22 HR, 74 RBI, 19 SB). He hit 101 homers in a 9-year career. He was 92 years old.

Rogelio Moret, a can’t miss prospect out of Puerto Rico who made his debut at just 20. His issues off the field and MLB’s inability to help him culminated in a notorious moment in 1978!
