I hate to say it but the majority of the country is not going to die on the hill of trans rights. We can’t protect ANY groups if we can’t win a national election, so purity tests only serve to make specific groups feel triumphant. That’s not “erasing” them; it’s long-horizon strategy.

Exactly!! I bop along with even the songs that aren’t my favorites, it’s crazy fun! But like we’ve talked about before, the messaging in the songs we don’t like (that one evil one of course), is off. It’s like she should have worked on it more before releasing it and it would have been better yet!

Right?! I love Tay, I think she’s great, but this one made me cringe. It’s the least female empowering song she’s ever written imo. People can interpret it as pro-Trad wife. I know she’s not and she was shocked that people thought that, but this one, like a lot of the songs, needed more thought.

I agree with many of @smittermeier.bsky.social’s takes here on TLOAS. I like/love many of the songs, but for the first time ever I hate a Tay song (WishList). 😟 I’ve already talked about this at length in multiple threads this past weekend. But yes, the album felt rushed and the messaging was mixed.

And to be fair, she has pushed back on the retirement, Trad wife shit, but my larger point was that everyone seems to have different, multiple reasons for disliking it, instead of the opposite. This in my opinion is…not great and if I were her, it would bother me a lot, to the point of speaking out.
