having spent the past few days in silicon valley in various gatherings with our AI overlords, governments, & scholars at the forefront of everything AI, I seriously wonder if the AI industry has become too big to fail

with all due respect, 'techlash' comes from years of shitty tech systematically forced into people's lives with no option to opt out, disenfranchising the most marginalised, turning public spaces into a surveillance nightmare, and now genAI destroying the earth, all to make a handful men richer

This fact-check from ABC News is what I've been asking for from the NYT for literally years now. Our health care is held to an impossibly-high standard while politicians banning it are allowed to lie lie lie.

I try to remember that whenever we talk about how much of a fucked up horror show the world is, what we mean is that the world is full of good people being wronged and beauty being destroyed, that we risk losing all of it—not a denial of the good in the world but its affirmation.
