I like libraries, transit, public radio, modern dance, independent bookstores and my local pizzaria. Sometimes I lift heavy things. Or run slowly. Still learning stuff too.

3 Legs of the stool needed to unlock our sustainable and accessible future city:

✅ Single Stair Building Codes
◻️ Small Lot Apartment Zoning
◻️ Affordable Elevators

The United States has the fewest elevators in the rich world, with Canada only a bit ahead. We teamed up with @uytaelee.bsky.social of About Here Videos to investigate why, exactly, North America sucks at elevators.

I watched the fascist murder video so you don't have to.

I don't recommend it, & I have some unoriginal thoughts:

1. Some folks join paramilitary organizations aspirationally, because they'd really like to kill people.

2. Fragile Male Ego.

3. This could happen here, too.

My worst fear is one day we wake up and find out we’ve had drone strikes in Canada that Trump says were fentanyl factories.

This is the problem with him being an unhinged cowboy.

This should be an outlandish statement, but it sounds plausible.

I've decided on Fahrenheit 451 as my final book of the year. I have read Bradbury, but for some reason, never this one.

Usually I skip the forewords but decided not to, and I'm glad I read this one because it was lovely, and ended thus.

Knives Out but the murder happens on a BC Ferry that Benoit Blanc is already on and the boat can’t dock until he solves the crime

In this scenario some people are headed to a retreat on a Gulf Island, there’s a high school sports team on board, and the car alarms never stop

I’m looking to chat with the people who are reimagining how cities move. Not just the technical stuff, but the experience of being a transit rider, a cyclist, or a pedestrian in a growing city.

Who are the three people in the mobility space I need to sit down with? Let me know replies.

Here’s something that’s really important for everyone to understand.

If we design our cities just for cars, they fail everyone, including drivers.

If we design our cities with many great CHOICES in how to get around, they work better for everyone, including drivers.

Spread the word.

The headwaters of the St George Rainway. An actual current with riffles this morning, flexing the stems of the aquatic plants & bringing the sound of running water. This all-seasons park is the best thing COV's added to the neighborhood in my time here (25.5 yrs!)

Here’s my humble pitch: we stop calling Vancouver’s housing market a “slowdown” or “slump”, implying that it was a great time before.

And instead, consider that after three years of similar numbers, acknowledge a new reality that everyone should adjust to.

Two things can be true at the same time, Canada.

1. Yes, I’m disappointed with some of Prime Minister Mark Carney’s approaches so far, particularly around climate action, and his definations of “nation-building.” We should expect better.

2. Carney is still light-years better than Pierre Poilievre.

The greenway a tremendously delightful addition to the neighbourhood 😍. The collected photos and videos would be a time-lapse of progress and appreciation. Good work by the city.
When it rains a lot I go to the St. George Rainway to watch water going in and out of things.

So, here’s a thread for those of you similarly enthralled…

In @translink.ca budget discussions, and frankly we don’t talk enough about how Metro Vancouver is the 25th largest metro area in Canada/USA, but has the 3rd highest transit ridership. This is a massive success we sometimes take for granted.

Finally got around to playing with TransLink realtime GTFS data. Kind of fun. Transit in Vancouver is looking pretty good, especially considering this is an hour midday on a holiday weekend, with some lines not running (hello 44) and not all buses reporting real-time information.

Listening to Vancouver Council and am blown away by how well informed residents are about taxation and then take the time to call in to discuss their position in favour of maintaining public services.

TL;DR good hearted Vancouverites believe in the power of taxation and wealth distribution.

everything was gamed out in advance, in private meetings that were mostly led by the Mayor's Chief of Staff – so council meetings were a performance. they weren't listening to speakers, they weren't debating or deciding. they were reading a script

the private meetings were the council meetings
Here's my video on why Vancouver's Integrity Commissioner ruled that Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim and his ABC Vancouver councillors violated the city's code of conduct

also i got some sun on grouse mountain yesterday and didn't go to our makeup studio before filming hahahaha whoops
