Liberal pragmatist with social democratic tendencies. https://waterfrontforall.ca. Climate Change is a clear & present challenge. Vaccines work. Housing abundance is necessary. Art is not surplus to requirements. No, it wasn't 'better' back then.

Holy shit San Francisco!

60% of the city rezoned, most places exceeding (!!) SB 79. The most restrictive of these allows attached 4–8 story apt buildings with no cap on the # of homes inside, no parking mandates, and by-right streamlined approval.

A lesson my late father taught me: #Ghandi succeeded because he played the best version of British ideals against the power of the Raj. As Dr. King ( #MLK) played the best of the #USA against Jim Crow. When #fascism is ascendant that maneuver ain't available. Act now.

Let’s be clear on some things.

Yes, I continue to strongly support the CBC here in Canada. And yes, I’ll keep challenging & criticizing any politician that wants to “defund the CBC.”

But also yes, I’ll criticize the CBC any time I think they’re making a serious mistake and letting down Canadians.
Off-putting that CBC platformed Charlie Kirk’s widow’s lengthy video message tonight, about continuing his “mission” even more aggressively, without comment on how repugnant much of that mission was. And who are the “they” who killed him she referenced? The even more extreme alt-right “Groypers?”

You don't need to invent new ideas to make a significant impact. Consider your favorite teacher or mentor--did they invent the subject they taught? Of course not. Yet they changed your life.

According to the City of Paris, in the last 10 years 150K trees have been planted & 45ha of parks created in the already hot city, all intended to not only improve quality-of-life today, but also help the city adapt to & manage summer heatwaves of 50℃ (122F) by 2050.

Just the start.

Common sense.

That’s what #ClimateChange does.

Makes the bad things more likely, and worse.

More likely. And worse.

For years since #Ontario shut down all its coal power plants, Toronto’s summer air quality was improving: e.g. far fewer smog days. But #ClimateChange amped #Wildfires (as in many other places across North America) are rewriting that good news story into a bad air story.

Indeed, what @parismarx.com says ⬇️. In the final instance, what I care about re the #USA: 1) Is the person with the nuclear codes sane (& basically decent-ish)? 2) Is the #USA threatening or helping my country & other countries? As to American domestic issues, filtered by #1 & #2, otherwise optional
americans often expect you not just to know about what’s happening in their country but to care about it too, yet will almost never show the same interest in your country
