Earlier today ICE agents hit someone with a car and tear gassed a neighborhood, sparking several fires and disrupting businesses.

Immigrants, by contrast, did not.
ICE is a much greater threat to this country than illegal immigrants. The current administration ia by far the greatest threat this country faces. The problem is not st our borders. It is in the White House.

This story explains a LOT of things: ChatGPT appears to be rooting on sociopathic mental illness by validating every delusion of grandeur.

It also explains, in part, the hype cycle around AI: rich people, addicted to praise, invented a Compliment Machine.

There are a ton of great movies and TV shows out right now, many of them super relevant to the, uh… *unique* US political climate.

Like Andor, which is showing some teeth in a second season that’s a vivid metaphor for America’s descent into authoritarianism.
Star Wars’ ‘Andor’ Season 2 Depicts the Banality of American Fascism
The franchise’s Disney era has been defined by toothless politics, but “Andor” Season 2 is a vivid metaphor for America’s descent into authoritarianism.

I’ve been thinking a lot about meaningful resistance that doesn’t feel so goddamn heavy. Because yes we need to do the hard stuff, but if we aren’t filling our own cup, it’s all just gonna crash out around us.

Yup. This is every "dream job": 10% doing the thing, 90% doing everything else required to get to do that 10%.
I've got a photographer friend, and so many folks think it must be lovely to just show up, take a few pictures and get paid, without considering the thousands of hours that go into self promotion, handling finances, networking, and all the many things that aren't taking pictures.

I **used** to be very, very excited about the prospect of working in the US. The market for photography and the quality of creatives is basically unparalleled. Now? I’ll stick to my home base of Toronto thanks. It’s unbelievable how arbitrary some of these detentions are becoming.

We need to respond to disinformation campaigns and the right-wing network of foreign funding as substantial threats.

One of my best friends is from a sleepy, wealthy small town in the south-west of Germany. He said, so many of my parents’ neighbours are rich and bored, with little to complain about, and they’ve radicalised themselves at dinner parties and online. In their aimlessness, they’ve bonded over hate.
This isn’t some rant saying “Germany has learned nothing from its past” - the reality is more subtle than that. Middle-class Germans live and travel with an incredible amount of ease and comfort, and they just got…sleepy. Many of them dismissed the far-right’s rage as just another set of complaints.
Just filed an article about the upcoming German elections (out on Sunday) and what strikes me is how timid much of the institutional pushback against the far-right has been. Some people have distinguished themselves but for the most part it’s just been really complacent - really disappointing.

In response students write [REDACTED], their own anti-censorship play skewering the school district, sells out performances, and ultimately takes gold at the Lenaea High School Theatre Festival.
