Doing that requires having a clear, compelling, consistent story not list of milquetoast promises without actions. And it requires naming your villains. Lay it on straight: Someone DID take your job/healthcare/pension. Wanna know who took your money? It's the people with all the money. /2

Last big program I helped run, we targeted AND MOVED a much higher proportion of former Trump voters than much larger, mainstream programs. The same goes for flipping folks in other countries. It's not about left vs mod, it's about whether you're ready to run on values, build a choir, & persuade. /1

In reading this @anatosaurus.bsky.social piece, it's worth thinking about what strategies/tactics can be used by ALL Democratic candidates. Many successful candidates in red areas (like Jared Golden) succeed by bashing the party. Everyone can't do that. www.weekendreading.net/p/bringing-a...

Sidelining marginalized groups/causes for electoral purposes is morally bad, as Ta-Nehisi Coates argued so well recently. @anatosaurus.bsky.social is making an important case---that strategy's electoral benefits are often limited or non-existent. A must-read. www.weekendreading.net/p/bringing-a...

this is as open an admission that an entire agency is engaging in routine constitutional violations that I can imagine
davidjbier.bsky.social
Holy hell. DHS just openly stated that its agents use “reasonable suspicion” to make ARRESTS. This is blatantly unconstitutional. The Supreme Court is clear that you need probable cause to arrest someone, as opposed to stop them to ask them a question or two. This is huge b/c…

The right always dominates all the social media, they are buying up most of the rest of the media and starting in on video game companies.

Meanwhile these losers are arguing over whether to throw trans people or pregnant women or Dreamers under the bus.

Hellloooo? That will not help you!

I can't believe any Dem "strategist" could look at the average YouTube or Facebook algorithm feeding an unstoppable stream of far-right garbage, and determine that minor policy compromise is the answer as opposed to an all-hands-on-deck media onslaught.

The Right is buying TikTok and EA, too!

I fully understand how difficult it is to remain focused on any one particular atrocity but this really ought to be a serious scandal and people need to pay heavy prices for this

I think the Trump admin assumed no one would try to find out who the people on the boats they blew up really were

I will continue to point out that the official position of the administration is to deny due process to people they declare "drug traffickers" and "terrorists" and assumed the power to kill them. Declaring your entire opposition to be "terrorists" opens a door to something very dark.

"JD Vance says GOP should threaten a shutdown: 'Why have a government if it’s not a functioning government?'
Congress faces a Sept. 30 deadline to fund the government or risk a shutdown."

There's something almost pathological about the blind spot on display here, and it's constant. Leading liberals and journalists simply *never* acknowledge that the Future Forward strategy failed. It's as if this is a taboo subject, for some reason
gregsargent.bsky.social
This is such a strange way to treat David Shor and Future Forward. The piece acknowledges that Future Forward spent hundreds of millions on ads against Trump, and that it didn't work. But the piece doesn't bother questioning whether that just might mean there's a flaw in their strategic thinking!

Taken just a few minutes ago outside the ICE facility in Portland that Trump claims is under siege. My message to Donald Trump is this: we don’t need you here. Stay the hell out of our city.

Mamdani serves a full, nutritious meal in an era where politics is either deadly poison or vacuous junk food. He uses the tried and true "we did, we can, we will" framework that helps abate cynicism but without papering over past harms or present injustice.

Recurring gripe of mine but it is incredible how National Conservatism is supposedly built around decrying lack of community, common project etc, while turning every “hate your neighbors” dial they can access up to 11. Make your professor terrified to say anything, don’t trust your doctor, etc

There's also nothing illegal about inaccurately calling people fascists. Or poopyheads. Or saying they can't make their wives come. Or that they fuck a sofa. This is America, and the basic rule is that the government can't tell us what to say.

It's not domestic terrorism to call fascists fascists. It's free and accurate speech.

The Trump regime is fascist! The MAGA movement is fascist!

Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

These people are authoritarian fascists. It's true. They can't throw the 100M people who agree with this in jail! (right? I hope?)

You are also basically guaranteed to never be heard because that rhetoric is Charlie Brown adults. Sounds like everything else. Instead, you must frame flip to centering evils of regime:
No dollars for dictatorship
No funding for fascism
No payout for pedophile protectors (to go ALL the way there)

If you're talking about "Republicans are going to shutdown the government" "Republicans are the ones responsible for shutting down the government" then you're already conceding to the let's figure out who to blame shutdown frame. That's a process conversation that eclipses people harmed from view.

For all the freaking out about moderates leaving Dems, +3pp more voters who ID as Dems ID as moderates in 2024 (26) as in 2020 (23)! This is the 7pt scale. Meanwhile Rs are 16% moderate. Ds are 20% more moderate than Rs!

David Shor puts one slide in a deck and boom, everyone is confused. It's wild.

ANES 3 point ideology self ID by race/ethnicity:

2020 Latinx:
Lib 25
Mod 26
DK 27
Con 22

2024 Latinx:
Lib 28 (+3)
Mod 27 (+2)
DK 21 (-6)
Con 25 (+3)

Whatever perception people have that Latinos turned sharply right in 2024, it's not supported by the ANES data.
