BREAKING Kemi Badenoch has sacked Robert Jenrick from the shadow cabinet, removed the whip and suspended his party membership.

She says she was "presented with clear, irrefutable evidence that he was plotting in secret to defect" to Reform

I believe there was a highly motivated GC group present at the venue (for a GC event) who decided to march into the loo to harass them. These aren’t regular people.
This apparently happened at the Leicester Square Hippodrome the other day. Note how a voice off says something about the Supreme Court.

Yep, this is where we are right now. Sigh.

TBH, I'm more intrested in a social media ban for MPs.
Many Labour MPs back an Australian led ban on social media for under 16s.

The UK Government should give it full consideration.

I’m not getting the disproportionate focus on the harms to children from social media. How about that adults in government still using very problematic platforms like X?

If this reform succeeds it will be a blueprint for African self-reliance. But the state has failed to deliver the most basic services for decades. No wonder Nigerians are suspicious

Finally got round to reading Balko's take down of an attempt at casting doubt on Chauvin's conviction by Coleman Hughes writing in the Free Press. The coda includes a response-to-a-response by Weiss and Hughes. Balko is very thorough and persuasive.

Bari Weiss's Free Press is the latest outlet to tout a conspiratorial documentary alleging that Derek Chauvin was wrongly convicted. It's all nonsense.

Today on Volts: I've got a nerdy one for you! I talk with political scientist @samuel-bagg.bsky.social about the epistemic crisis & its roots in social identity. He explains why factchecking & media literacy classes will never solve misinformation -- why something deeper & stronger is required.
The cure for misinformation is not more information or smarter news consumers
Political scientist Samuel Bagg explains why social identity is at the root of the misinformation crisis -- which calls for something deeper than factchecking.

We will never know *how much* this is attributable to Labour's decision to track not tackle Reform's rhetoric of hate on immigration. But that Labour *helped* render these views acceptable cannot, surely, be doubted.

We've always had these dead-eyed socipaths around. It's just a few years ago they were ignored and now they're "senior fellow" at places funded by evil millionaires + going on podcasts with a brain-rotted ex-PM.

Pitt is a Senior Policy Fellow for Rupert Lowe's Restore Britain, who also regularly co-hosts podcasts with his ally Tomlinson (who advocates banning all ethnic and faith minorities from public office). Like Lowe, Pitt is keen to dissolve boundaries/norms

There are many postliberal reactionary types preempting this already. Some of their solutions will involve explicitly arguing to roll back women’s rights. Self styled “reactionary feminist”, Mary Harrington, has been explicitly arguing along these lines for a while.
