do think, more broadly, that it's interesting how Everyone Worries About Young Men but I'm yet to see a mainstream piece go "huh, so how about the way they were and are being parented, and the world previous generations built for them"
Think my new provocative bit might be saying "if you want to give young people something to belong to, middle aged men need to get off their phones and start running stuff in their community".

There's an interesting piece to be done on the cohort of young Trumpers who seem drawn to the MAGA movement because what they actually want is to be famous and being young and fascist is a faster route to press attention than starting a new TikTok account.

This is a superb, fact-filled FT article on China’s trading profile, its $1 trillion trade surplus, the fact it makes almost 1/3rd of the world’s manufactured goods…more than the US, Japan, Germany and South Korea combined.

How China’s record trade surplus helped spark Trump’s tariff war
Beijing’s domination of global trade has led to a schism between the world’s two largest economies — and left many others worried about their industries being crushed by China’s export machine

The postcard is not just a story of technological progress. It’s one of state capacity.

At the time, the Post Office was the world’s most advanced civil logistics network. Tech, growth, and the state together drove progress.

Somewhere along the way, we forgot this formula.

Joking aside re: that Atlantic piece. If you read some of the exchanges, you get the sense that various aides believe reopening shipping lanes in the Red Sea will be speedy and straightforward. That's unrealistic, and it touches on an ideological schism in Trumpworld. 🧵

I can assure you that every fixed income and macro manager watching that meeting yesterday immediately contemplated the grim possibility where US Treasuries aren’t the risk-free asset
For a start, ECB and other European institutions need to start wargaming for a collapse in global trust when it comes to US Treasuries. It's not the most likely scenario, but many of those have "less likely" have suddenly become strategic reality recently
